Vice President Inaugurates NCC Republic Day Camp-2014 7 01 2014 The Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari inaugurated the “National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp-2014” at the Garrison Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt here today. Addressing the cadets and officers of NCC, the Vice President lauded the various welfare initiatives of NCC , the largest uniformed organization in the world, which brings together young people from all parts of our country and every segment of society to prepare them for being responsible citizens of tomorrow by instilling in them a culture of discipline and teamwork. He extended his best wishes to the cadets for a happy, healthy and successful New year and called upon them to reaffirm their resolve to work hard and excel in all their endeavours. He lauded the valuable contributions of NCC cadets in providing emergency relief to victims of natural disasters, especially in the aftermath of devastating floods in Uttarakhand. He also appreciated NCC’s initiatives for socio-economic welfare of our citizens on important issues as healthcare and in combating social evils. The Vice President said that the revised curriculam addresses the core concerns of the nation as it aims to inculcate in the youth the values of patriotism and ethics. A contingent of smartly turned out NCC cadets presented a “Guard of Honour” to the Vice President on his arrival at the camp. This was followed by NCC cadets presenting Band Display. The Vice President visited the “Flag Area” where he listened to the young cadets briefing him about their respective States and appreciated the various social themes displayed in the Flag Area prepared by them. A total of 2070 Cadets from all States and Union Territories are attending the camp. The camp provides a unique opportunity to the cadets from different regions and States of our vast and diverse country to meet and interact with each other and further the cause of ‘national integration’. The underlying theme of RDC-2014 is “Nation First”. The launch was flawless and achieved all its targeting and technical parameters set out for the training exercise. ‘The launch was conducted as a culmination to a strategic training exercise. The aim of this exercise was to validate our readiness by undertaking launches in various contingencies’, said an SFC spokesperson. Prithvi missiles are indigenously produced and are equipped with improved high accuracy navigation and manoeuvring system. Inducted into India’s Strategic Forces Command in 2003, the Prithvi missile, the first missile to be developed under India’s prestigious IGMDP strengthens India’s nuclear deterrence
