Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (HMCL), the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, today celebrated ace golferAnirban Lahiri’s historic fifth place finish at the PGA Championship, at a special event here today, reiterating its long-term commitment to keep supporting Indian sports.

Mr Pawan Munjal, Chairman, MD & CEO, Hero MotoCorp presented Anirban with a memento to mark his meteoric rise as a global Hero in the golfing arena. Anirban Lahiri, who started playing golf at a tender age of 8, has been a Brand Ambassador of Hero MotoCorp for over five years.

Speaking on the occasionAnirban Lahiri said; “My success in the highly-competitive world of global golf is a testimony to what we can achieve with the right kind of support and encouragement. It gives me immense pleasure to share this moment with the Hero family and particularly with Mr. Munjal, who has been a constant source of inspiration and encouragement throughout my professional career. I am sure with the kind of commitment that Hero has in promoting sportspersons in the country, we will have many more champions emerging out of India in the coming year.”

Anirban Lahiri (28), currently ranked World No. 38, made his mark in professional golf with his first victory in 2011 at the Panasonic Open and has been playing professionally at various international tours since then. Today, young Anirban holds two wins at the European Tour including the Hero Indian Open, seven wins at the Asian Tour and 11 wins at the Professional Golf Tour of India. An Order of Merit holder at the Professional Golf Tour of India, Anirban is the 3rd Indian golfer to ever play in the Masters and has also been recognised with the Arjuna Award for his outstanding performance in the field of sports.

Hero MotoCorp is committed to encouraging various disciplines of sports in India. The company hosts the annual Hero Indian Open Golf tournament with participation from international marquee players. Hero has been sponsoring the men’s Indian Open since 2006 and the Women’s Indian Open since 2010. Hero also sponsors India’s domestic Pro Tour for women.
