Onward Together

Onward Together – Default

Naresh —
This past weekend, I traveled to Rochester, New York to pay tribute to the life of the great Representative Louise Slaughter, and watched as young activists showed us that the future leaders of the progressive movement are smart, diverse, and not waiting for an invitation to get up and make their voices heard.
I found myself thinking about the ways in which activism and public service can make life richer. After all, there’s no better way to meet people who are passionate about your passions than by fighting, side by side, for what’s right.
I’m so grateful to be able to share these fights with you, Naresh, and to have you as part of the Onward Together family. Today, I hope you’ll take a moment to learn a little more about Collective PAC, another one of the groups that we’re working with, in their fight to find and elect more African-American legislators and make our democracy a little more equal.
Onward!
Hillary

Onward Together works to build a brighter future for generations to come by supporting groups that encourage people to organize in their communities or run for office. Because you’re an important part of Onward Together, we wanted you to get a chance to know these groups a little bit better. To learn more about Onward Together, click here.
The organization: Collective PAC
The organizers: Quentin James and Stefanie Brown James, former key strategists and organizers for the Sierra Club, NAACP, and Obama for America campaigns.
The mission: To fix the underrepresentation of African Americans in elected office by working to find, support, fund and elect African-American candidates.
The story: Collective PAC was created in 2016, when two politicos set out to close the gap in representation for African American constituents. In less than two years, they’ve helped 23 candidates win at the local, state and federal level, raised nearly $1,000,000, and launched The Black Campaign School and The Black Political Power Summit.
The latest: With the primary season underway, Collective PAC has swung into action, with 38 endorsed candidates on the ballot this year at statewide, federal, and municipal levels. They’re also focused on building the power of black voters and donors through training and support programs.
The next step: Head to collectivepac.org to join the fight for equal representation and get involved in 2018 efforts today.

Amendment to the Minerals Conversation Rules 2017

Amendment to the Mineral Conservation and Development Rules, 2017                                                             NewDelhi-28.03.2017
The lease period of merchant miners extended under the section 8A (6) of the MMDR Act, would expire on 31st March,  2020. There are about 288 mining leases which would expire in 2020, of which 59 are working leases, which give substantial production of key minerals viz. iron ore, manganese and chromite ore etc. The auction process needs to be initiated well in advance to ensure a seamless transition from the existing to the new lessees as the new auctioned leases and that the mineral production is not affected due to expiry of these leases. Exploration of the blocks was required to done for the auction process of these mineral blocks. The Central Government had earlier issued a directive in 2010 which mentioned that all the existing leases have to be brought to an exploration level of G2 or G1 in 5 years’ time. It has been further strengthened by inserting rule 12 (4A) in the Mineral Conservation and Development Rules, 2017 (MCDR) by way of an amendment notification, published in Gazette of India vide G.S.R. No. 289 dated 27.03.2018. The rule mandates exploration in G2 level as stipulated under clause (a) of rule 5 of the Mineral (Evidence of Mineral Contents) Rules 2015, to be carried out in the mining leases expiring in 2020 by 1st April, 2019. The rule also lays down the timelines for implementation of the exploration plan prepared with the approval of IBM for satisfying the requirements.

Mr Hassan Rouhani ... got the absolute majority of votes and was elected as president," Najjar said. Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, a hard-line conservative, lagged behind with about 16 percent of the votes. Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili, he too a hard-line conservative, earned 11 percent. The voter turnout was 72.7 percent. Save Dissent to Save Democracy   THE rising instances of physical violence and threats against political opponents and the inability to accept dissent must raise huge concerns amongst all of us who see democracy as perhaps the really stellar achievement since Independence. AAP’s attack on BJP headquarters and acts of arson committed under the very noses of their elite leadership; the attacks on Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in Gujarat in the last two days; the recent manhandling of the caretaker of journalist Siddharth Varadarajan’s house by some garden variety thugs; and the violence and threats meted out regularly to their political opponents by political parties is surely deplorable and condemnable. This is a fatally flawed trend which will destroy the very foundations of our democratic institutions if not pushed back with all the strength and condemnation that the civil society can mobilise. Replaying the past To begin with, it must be clarified that we should ...
