The Centre has finalised a developmental action plan in Naxal affected districts particularly in eastern India. Talking to reporters in New Delhi yesterday, Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh said that the 'Saranda Action Plan', prepared by Rural Development Ministry, will be implemented firstly in Jharkhand's Naxal-hit Saranda district after a meeting with the state's Deputy Chief Minister Sudesh Mahato, CRPF Director General Vijayakumar and other top officials. He said, a seven-member team from the Ministry is going to Saranda to discuss the issue. According to the plan, immediate priority is to distribute solar lanterns and bicycles, construction of prefab houses for BPL families under the Indira Awas Yojana and bridges with the help of the Army and special water supply - hand pump schemes.

AAP’s attack on BJP headquarters and acts of arson committed under the very noses of their elite leadership; the attacks on Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in Gujarat in the last two days; the recent manhandling of the caretaker of journalist Siddharth Varadarajan’s house by some garden variety thugs; and the violence and threats meted out regularly to their political opponents by political parties is surely deplorable and condemnable. This is a fatally flawed trend which will destroy the very foundations of our democratic institutions if not pushed back with all the strength and condemnation that the civil society can mobilise.
