BJPMLA Sharma & AAPMLA Alka Lamba

Frontal organizations of Aam Aadmi Party including the Youth Wing and the Women’s Wing today held a huge protest in front of the residence of BJP MLA  O P Sharma demanding his immediate suspension as MLA. Sharma had used abusive language for AAP MLA Alka Lamba on the floor of Assembly. “A person who does not have the minimum knowledge and civility to talk to a women colleague has no right to be an MLA,” AAP Women’s Wing president Bhavna Gaur said in a press release after the protest.

It is shocking that the public discourse of the BJP and its leaders are deteriorating with every passing day. The incident of BJP lawmaker OP Sharma abusing a lady fellow legislator on the floor of Delhi assembly is not just condemnable but also telling of the standards of the BJP as a party. The people of Delhi understood the bankruptcy of BJP and gave them a huge drubbing in Delhi election and they could win only 3 seats. Not humbled but having lost their balance of mind, now BJP MLAs are resorting to calling names to Aam Aadmi Party leaders and MLAs. Having failed in all conspiracies by BJP ruling at the Centre, conniving with the LG and trying to destabilize the popular Aam Aadmi Party government, now foul language is being resorted to.

“The behavior of the BJP MLAs is typically the same as which the society is fighting with. We specially in Delhi are struggling with the demeaning attitude of fellow men.  O P Sharma ‘s behavior is similar to those men who treat women not at par with them and openly compromise the self respect of a woman,” said Bhavna Gaur.
“If BJP has some sense of respect for women, then it should immediately suspend OP Sharma as an MLA post,” She added .
Hundreds of youths and women assembled in front of the residence of Sharma to protest his anti women attitude.

Save Dissent to Save Democracy   THE rising instances of physical violence and threats against political opponents and the inability to accept dissent must raise huge concerns amongst all of us who see democracy as perhaps the really stellar achievement since Independence. AAP’s attack on BJP headquarters and acts of arson committed under the very noses of their elite leadership; the attacks on Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in Gujarat in the last two days; the recent manhandling of the caretaker of journalist Siddharth Varadarajan’s house by some garden variety thugs; and the violence and threats meted out regularly to their political opponents by political parties is surely deplorable and condemnable. This is a fatally flawed trend which will destroy the very foundations of our democratic institutions if not pushed back with all the strength and condemnation that the civil society can mobilise. Replaying the past To begin with, it must be clarified that we should ...
