TOURISM AUTHORITY OF THAILAND LAUNCHES ONLINE AGENT TRAINING & CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

SETS A TARGET OF 1,500 AGENTS FOR 2012

Mumbai, 29th December 2011:  The Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mumbai has announced the launch of its online travel trade training & certification program. The ambitious program will aim to train and certify 1,500 tour operators and agents on a pan India basis over 12 calendar months beginning January 2012.

Commenting on the planned launch, Mr. Sethaphan Buddhani, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand said, "The program has been branded as the ‘Amazing Thailand Champion Agents’ and would enable travel agents & tour operators to familiarize themselves with various wonders of Thailand such as heritage, culture, cuisine in addition to other aspects such as wellness, adventure and leisure opportunities for their clients. We will also highlight various destinations within Thailand that will provide an opportunity to further increase the length of stay and quality of experience."

Mr. Buddhani further added, "Earlier on ground training programs initiated by our offices in New Delhi and Mumbai had met with a high level of intrigue and subscription from front liners and senior management of travel agents and tour operators. In order to further expand the opportunity to all regions of India and widen the base of knowledge of agents promoting Amazing Thailand, it was decided to take the program online with specific modules designed especially for the Indian market."

During the course of the training, enrolled members will also appear for an online test on the various offerings and destinations in Thailand.  Agents securing the highest scores would also be offered an opportunity of an educational tour to Thailand and experience the destination first hand. Incentivizing early registrations, the TAT office has announced limited 'early bird' gift hampers.

To avail of this opportunity, trade members in India would need to log on to www.thaitravelmart.com  and register their company. Upon registering, they would then need to proceed to the E-learning section and in particular ‘Lesson 3’ which has been specially designed for the Indian market.

The online training or e-learning program has been divided into 4 modules for the Indian market. These modules include General information, Seven Wonders of Amazing Thailand, Destinations and Special Information. Travel agents and tour operators are required to study these four modules and appear for an online test for each module. Upon successfully completing all four modules, the travel agent will be certified as an ‘Amazing Thailand Champion Agent’.

Save Dissent to Save Democracy   THE rising instances of physical violence and threats against political opponents and the inability to accept dissent must raise huge concerns amongst all of us who see democracy as perhaps the really stellar achievement since Independence. AAP’s attack on BJP headquarters and acts of arson committed under the very noses of their elite leadership; the attacks on Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in Gujarat in the last two days; the recent manhandling of the caretaker of journalist Siddharth Varadarajan’s house by some garden variety thugs; and the violence and threats meted out regularly to their political opponents by political parties is surely deplorable and condemnable. This is a fatally flawed trend which will destroy the very foundations of our democratic institutions if not pushed back with all the strength and condemnation that the civil society can mobilise. Replaying the past To begin with, it must be clarified that we should ...
