Text Box: Highlights:

-	Winner of each tournament will be entitled to an exclusively created trophy the ‘Blu Lotus’, which is a work of art by blown glass artist Atul Bakshi

-	The 2 India finalists to play in South Africa at world finals in January 2013 will be honoured with a dazzling ‘Blu Jacket’ –especially designed by Ritu Beri. This jacket was unveiled at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2012 in Mumbai early this month.
Mumbai, 17th November, 2012: After a game with enthusiastic golfers in Pune, the Swedish luxury carmaker Volvo Auto India’s popular global sports property the ‘Volvo World Golf Challenge’ (VWGC) reaches Mumbai.

A nail-biting finish enthralled the galleries with Mr. Rahul Goyal emerging as the winner in the Handicap Category 0-12 and Ms. Rani Maheshwari winning in the Handicap Category 13-24.

Speaking at the tournament, Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India said, “The Aamby Valley Golf Course is an experience which has no parallel in the country. It is a sheer visual delight and a marvel of British Golf Architecture waiting to be conquered by those who value the challenges, pristine outdoors, constantly changing conditions and variety that really defines the essence of this wonderful game called Golf. And similarly Volvo World Golf Challenge is a tournament which has no parallel either. Among the golfers were few of the top entrepreneurs from India. To name a few were – Mr. B Muthuraman, Director Tata Steel, Sangramsingh Pratapsingh Gaekwad, Maharaja of Baroda, Mr Kuldip K Kaura, CEO & MD of ACC Limited and Mr. Tarun Rai, CEO World Wide Media. The competition was close and it was a pleasure to see the golfers sweat it out to win the specially-designed work of art trophy, “The Blu Lotus” created exclusively for the VWGC India by renowned blown glass artist Atul Bakshi. It captures the Scandinavian flavor that is synonymous with Volvo Cars global ethos ‘Designed Around You’, which customizes products around an individual’s preferences.”

However, what will be more exciting is to see the final 14 golfers from 7 cities to compete for the exclusive Blu Jacket. The ‘Blu Jacket’ is a hallmark of art and luxury, craftily interweaving Volvo Cars’ Scandinavian sophistication and design diva Ritu Beri’s uber-chic craftwork.  It is inspired by Volvo Car’s brand philosophy – Designed Around You. The fabric is soft like the leather of the Volvo car, comfortable as the seats; it is chic like the Volvo Car design. It is intrinsically simple without any unnecessary fussy details. The color Blue is from the Volvo logo and it is also a cool color - the color of the sky, ocean, twilight. It is the color of high ideals, the color that aptly reflects the royal style of Volvo", he added.

The two winners from today’s tournament will compete with the other 12 winners from different cities tomorrow at Aamby Valley itself.

Volvo Auto India had teamed up with PGTI for the flagship event debut in India earlier this year.

Rouhani wins Iran's Presidential election Moderate cleric Hassan Rouhani won Iran's presidential election on Saturday, the interior ministry said, scoring a surprising landslide victory over conservative hardliners without the need of a second round run-off.Interior minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar announced on state television that Rouhani secured just over 50 percent of the ballot based on a 72 percent turnout of 50 million eligible voters. Mr Hassan Rouhani ... got the absolute majority of votes and was elected as president," Najjar said. Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, a hard-line conservative, lagged behind with about 16 percent of the votes. Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili, he too a hard-line conservative, earned 11 percent. The voter turnout was 72.7 percent. President-elect Hassan Rohani, sixty four years old, is known as a moderate conservative. He has been stressing the need to improve ties with Western nations, and is back...
Save Dissent to Save Democracy   THE rising instances of physical violence and threats against political opponents and the inability to accept dissent must raise huge concerns amongst all of us who see democracy as perhaps the really stellar achievement since Independence. AAP’s attack on BJP headquarters and acts of arson committed under the very noses of their elite leadership; the attacks on Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in Gujarat in the last two days; the recent manhandling of the caretaker of journalist Siddharth Varadarajan’s house by some garden variety thugs; and the violence and threats meted out regularly to their political opponents by political parties is surely deplorable and condemnable. This is a fatally flawed trend which will destroy the very foundations of our democratic institutions if not pushed back with all the strength and condemnation that the civil society can mobilise. Replaying the past To begin with, it must be clarified that we should ...
