 India's Competitiveness

Note from the President and CEO

Dear Colleagues,
Writing to you today to share an update on council activities.
First, the India Council on Competitiveness is participating in the Annual Meeting of the GFCC under the 2014 Global Innovation Summit. It is being held at Banff, Canada on December 12-13, 2014. The council will be interacting with Don Scott, Alberta’s Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education to discuss economic development best practices, successes and challenges, and encourage increased engagement between Alberta and India for mutual economic benefit.
Secondly we have learning sessions being conducted in association with ‘Thinkers’. The first among the series was held on December 8, 2014 with Navi Radjou. He delivered a talk on “How to profit from the global ingenuity economy?.” He discussed how new technologies (mobility, social media, Internet of Things, 3D printing) and groundswell socio-economic movements (e.g., sharing and circular economy, maker movement) are dramatically lowering the cost of innovation worldwide. Using real-life case studies, he showed how companies could reinvent their strategy, culture, and leadership to succeed in the emerging global ingenuity economy.
The forthcoming thought leadership session would be organized on January 6, 2015 with Stuart L. Hart – a leading authority on the implications of environment and poverty for business strategy. The deliberations are a step forward to work together for the overarching goal and to stay strong by being competitive.
We at the council are extremely overwhelmed to work towards building the momentum for enhancing prosperity of the country by amplifying the voices of the leaders in a positive direction. In addition, your support synergizes the agenda and takes us one step forward to our goal.
In case you want to become an active participant of the ongoing discussions, you can explore the India Council on Competitiveness memberships. You can interact with me or look at details available at http://compete.org.in/membership/

Rouhani wins Iran's Presidential election Moderate cleric Hassan Rouhani won Iran's presidential election on Saturday, the interior ministry said, scoring a surprising landslide victory over conservative hardliners without the need of a second round run-off.Interior minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar announced on state television that Rouhani secured just over 50 percent of the ballot based on a 72 percent turnout of 50 million eligible voters. Save Dissent to Save Democracy   THE rising instances of physical violence and threats against political opponents and the inability to accept dissent must raise huge concerns amongst all of us who see democracy as perhaps the really stellar achievement since Independence. AAP’s attack on BJP headquarters and acts of arson committed under the very noses of their elite leadership; the attacks on Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in Gujarat in the last two days; the recent manhandling of the caretaker of journalist Siddharth Varadarajan’s house by some garden variety thugs; and the violence and threats meted out regularly to their political opponents by political parties is surely deplorable and condemnable. This is a fatally flawed trend which will destroy the very foundations of our democratic institutions if not pushed back with all the strength and condemnation that the civil society can mobilise. Replaying the past To begin with, it must be clarified that we should ...
