Shanti Swaroop from Student politics to Delhi politics

Shanti Swaroop,  a graduate from Moti Lal Nehru college, Delhi, in conversation with Rahul Kumar Sr correspondent,Sagar Media Inc, exploring further political aspiration in this meet.

When did you enter into an active politics and what is your educational and social background?
Shanti Swaroop, a graduate from Moti Lal Nehru college, Delhi, aged 46, OBC by caste, won student union election as a General Secretary. In 1993, he fought the MLA election on the ticket of Janata Dal and lost. In 1996, he has joined the Congress Party and currently a President (Block Congress Committee). He is a businessman by profession.
What are your views on rising crimes against women in Delhi?
There are several sociological aspects involved in rising crimes against women in Delhi. India is a country of diverse religions, castes, and communities. The impact of Western culture on the members of the Indian society through internet wields negative effect especially on the youngsters. There is an urgent need to engage actively the teachers, social counsellors, and parents to educate male and females on the importance of social institutions such as family, kinship, marriage, culture etc. Such social engineering can deter crimes against women in Delhi. A spirit of cooperation between the citizens of Delhi and the law enforcing agencies should be actively established so as a victim should get assistance without losing time.
What are your views on the menace of corruption?
Corruption is a world phenomenon. Congress Party brought about an RTI bill to curb corruption. Now, a common man is empowered to know the details of income and expenditures incurred in the development of the area by filling an RTI. The menace of corruption can be eradicated with the active participation and cooperation of the people. There is a need to evolve a system of accountability in the government department through which a consumer or a service seeker should know about the status of their work. A time-bound framework should be the best solution for deterring the menace of corruption.
Internal migration to Delhi is a big challenge. How do you recognize this challenge in relation to Delhities? What are the solutions you think can make Delhi a better place to live in?
Delhi is a capital of India; is also known as a political capital. People  from neighbouring  states has been migrating to Delhi for a number of reasons. The trend is that the majority of them stay back resulting in congestion. Such population concentration tends to increase pressure on hospitals, educational institutions, roads etc. The rising unemployment in Delhi has also posed several challenges for Delhi. There is an urgent need to set up new industrial units which can offer jobs to everyone. New employment avenues should be opened in the villages of Delhi. In my view, a priority should be given to the resident of Delhi in schools, colleges and other government institutions. New government hospitals, schools, colleges and vocational institutions need to be constructed to accommodate the inflow of migrants in the National Capital Regions (NCRs).
How do you rate 49 days government of AAM ADMI PARTY in Delhi?
Congress Party always stands by the people of Delhi. In the larger interest of the Delhities the Congress Party extended support to Kejriwal so that an additional monetary burden should not fall on the tax payers of Delhi. In the last Delhi election Kejriwal promised a 50 % reduction in electric bills, free water supply and many more populist promises to the Delhities but within 49 days he ran away, leaving the government machinery as well as the wise voters of Delhi in the lurch. Subsidy given by Kejriwal was  a clever ploy to extend monetary benefit to the industrialists resulting in more damage to the future development of Delhi. Kejriwal has not filed a single FIR against any industrialists to whom he was abusing from the platform of Anna Hazare. His 49 days government was a great failure. Today, the people of Delhi have released about the development made by the congress party in Delhi under the chief Ministership of Smt. Shiela Dekshit continuously for 15 years. The worst condition of MCD under the rule of BJP narrates sad tales. I am confident that the people of Delhi will vote for congress party in the forthcoming elections of Delhi.
What are your priorities in terms of development of your constituency if you are fielded by the congress party and voted to power?

I belong to RK Puram constituency where mixed populations reside meaning government employees and the labour class. My sincere wish is to develop the entire area of my constituency not by pick and choose as is being done by the BJP government. The government toilets are broken and those which are working face acute shortage of water especially in the slum areas. The poor people living in the adjoining slums of RK Puram have to face daily problems to use these toilets particularly the women. My priorities are to set up avenues for generating employment for the people. I shall see to it that electricity, water and other essential stuff for daily usage should be available 24x7. All communities irrespective of caste, creed, or religion will be looked after in my constituency. Free Wi-Fi internet services will be provided to the residents of RK Puram. A 24x7 call center having direct coordination with the civic and police agencies will be set up to ensure basic services to the people of RK Puram under my supervision.

Save Dissent to Save Democracy   THE rising instances of physical violence and threats against political opponents and the inability to accept dissent must raise huge concerns amongst all of us who see democracy as perhaps the really stellar achievement since Independence. AAP’s attack on BJP headquarters and acts of arson committed under the very noses of their elite leadership; the attacks on Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in Gujarat in the last two days; the recent manhandling of the caretaker of journalist Siddharth Varadarajan’s house by some garden variety thugs; and the violence and threats meted out regularly to their political opponents by political parties is surely deplorable and condemnable. This is a fatally flawed trend which will destroy the very foundations of our democratic institutions if not pushed back with all the strength and condemnation that the civil society can mobilise. Replaying the past To begin with, it must be clarified that we should ...
