Maharashtra Boys; Chhattisgarh Girls win 2011 Sub Jr. National Basketball Championship                                                                                                                    Basketball fans in Lucknow were given a visual treat on Friday evening as the best under-1 4 teams from around India clashed in the Finals of the 38 th Sub-Junior National Basketball Championship for Boys & Girls in the city’s RDSO court. Eight days of exciting hoops action ended in fitting manner as the boys’ final saw Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra fight neck-no-neck in a classic final, which was finally won by Maharashtra. The Girls’ championship was a repeat of last year’s final between Chhattisgarh and Karnataka, and for the seventh consecutive year, it was Chhattisgarh who emerged as Sub Jr champions. Sikkim Quake toll climbs to 35

Quake-hit Sikkim as the death toll in the 6.8 magnitude temblor mounted to 35, including 39 in the Himalayan state. The earthquake, which struck last evening, left a trail of devastation damaging roads, buildings and other structures, uprooting mobile phone towers and snapping communication and power lines. After shocks made people panic in several areas forcing them to spend the night outdoors. West and South districts in Sikkim remained inaccessible to the Army due to landslides and inclement weather and rescuers were facing an uphill task to reach these areas, Major General S L Narasimhan, GOC 17 Mountain Division told reporters in Gangtok. Sikkim accounted for 35 deaths alone, with most casualties taking place in the North District and in towns and villages like Rangpo, Dikchu, Singtam and Chungthang located along the course of Teesta river, officials in the district control room said. The 94-page CRS report titled India: Domestic Issues, Strategic Dynamics, and U.S. Relations has observed, “Perhaps India’s best example of effective governance and impressive development is found in Gujarat, where controversial Chief Minister Narendra Modi has streamlined economic processes, removing red tape and curtailing corruption in ways that have made the state a key driver of national economic growth”.
