First phase of UP Assembly polls on Wednesday

Picnic, political remarks some sweet and some sour for public consumption for first phase of  UP assembly polls has come to end.The bigwigs of  major political outfits BSP, Congress, SP and the BJP,Senior Leader Shri LK Advani,BJP Chief Nitin Gadkari,BJP Sr leader Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, SP Chief leaders Mulayam Singh,his son Akhilesh,Congress General Secretary MP Rahul Gandhi,Priayanka Gandhi Vadera, Robert Vadera ,UP CM BSP Chief Mayawati, BSP MP Satish Misra, traded allegation on each other for public funds not accomplishing mission development.Each party has assured various welfare scheme if came to power and hung assembly or thin majority is expected from UP voters.With growing technology inputs in electoral battle, the results could be unexpected may be surprising best for BSP,SP parties. BJP promised to work for the development and welfare of the masses if elected to power.Stakes are high for ruling BSP in the 55 assembly constituencies in ten districts  go to poll Wednesday.

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Monday reiterated his party's commitment to stand by aam admi.Congress leader said there is corruption in BJP governments in Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Punjab while Advani is taking out yatras across various states.Gandhi attacked Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi too, saying he had not allowed a Lokayukta to be appointed in his state.  Taking on Gandhi, the BJP said he has accepted defeat in UP even before the polls are over.

Nearly 1.70 lakh electorate would seal the fate of 862 candidates in the polling to be held in Sitapur, Barabanki, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Gonda, Siddharth Nagar and Basti amidst tight security.

Stakes are high for ruling BSP, Congress, SP and the BJP in the no holds barred fight for the 403 assembly seats.Congress and BJP had announced not to support any political parties or group in view of the possibility of a hung assembly while the SP and BSP were confident of being in the race to grab the power.

More than 2 lakh policemen, including 780 companies of Central forces, have been deployed for this phase of elections.Additional chief electoral officer Mrityunjay Narain said that polling in 10 districts, including Sitapur, Barabanki, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Gonda, Siddharth Nagar and Basti would be held amidst tight security arrangements.

Narain said that in the first phase 6,855 polling stations have identified as critical and to ensure free and fair elections more than two lakh jawans, including of state police and central forces, have been deployed.

It would be a litmus test for Congress leaders including Beni Prasad Verma and National Commission for Scheduled Caste Chairman PL Punia as both of them represent the areas going to the polls.
