(+)Theatre Workshop for Kids
Synopsis: Starting from scratch, the workshop aims to take children on a journey to make Something from Nothing. Nothing is seen as an empty, perhaps scary place; in theater it is a place filled with immense possibilities. Children begin by exploring these possibilities through their own experiences, expressing and articulating them through a range of theater exercises. More possibilities are explored through stories; we look at what makes good stories and the kinds of stories that excite us. An attitude of Playfulness is essential to any kind of making and games of various kinds underpin this process of playmaking. The workshop emphasizes the journey and aims to expose children to playful and artful ways of making and telling stories. (+)

UNLAWFUL DEMOLITION OF 130 HOMES, 600 RENDERED HOMELESS

21052014

Slum dwellers start Satyagraha asserting their right to shelter: Aam Aadmi Party to support

National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM) condemns the unlawful eviction of 600 people and brutal demolition of 130 homes that took place at 90 ft. Road, Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Nagar, Mulund (E), Mumbai today.

In January 2013, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had set up an enquiry commission to curb corrupt practices plaguing 6 SRA (Slum Rehabilitation Authority) projects and Re-development plans in slum areas of Mumbai after local residents had exposed the irregularities. The commission was led by Mr.Debashish Chakrabarty, Principal Secretary (Housing).

It is after1 year and 5 months of investigation that Mr Chakrabarty submitted his report to Chief Minister in which it is concluded that the slum dwellers should approach the Additional Collector for getting the eligibility issue resolved, and for other issues they are asked to submit their application to the SRA who would give an hearing and settle the issues. All this is yet to happen. It is also not clear that whether the CM has approved the report however the report is recently received by NAPM and the NAPM was to act on the same. It is therefore absolutely unjustifiable that the houses are demolished without serving the purpose of the enquiry itself.

While the enquiry is extra-ordinarily delayed, Samarth Spark Developers have used this opportunity to their own advantage, which is grabbing land by displacing the poor. First, they have cleverly manipulated the law by prompting Ashtabhuja Society to file a case against them (vide writ petition 647/2014 date. 03.04.2014) as a result of which the High Court has ordered demolition of these houses. Whether the court was kept in dark about the enquiry commission or not, its judgement has led to the demolition even before the enquiry’s final findings. Then, in cahoots with the local administration, they’;ve carried out the demolition before the victims could take recourse to law.

Demolitions were carried out in the early hours of morning by Tehsildar Smt. Dalvi under direct orders from Deputy Collector Ravi Patil.

Out of the 136 demolished homes, 16 were unsurveyed and hence didn’t qualify for demolition.

Out of the demolished houses 111 didn’t qualify under the 1/1/95 cut-off for slum dwellings but they were to be in the process of getting declared as eligible since the government had decided to increase the 95 cut-off to the year 2000. [‘Free housing for slum dwellers till 2000’ |TNN | Jan 3, 2012]. The Deputy Collector was well-informed about this process but went ahead with the demolitions showing clear bias for the builder fraternity at the cost of urban poor. It is thus clear that the election promises to the urban poor in Mumbai have already forgotten and the politicians are back to their injustice& illegal practices.

Ten households which were legal structure, but had denied rehabilitation in transit camps were also evicted. Their inability to move into the transit camp was again an administrative blunder as the camp was situated on disputed land (public playground). In any case the transit camps are in a very bad condition and while others are compelled to stay there these households had demanded a legal and liveable transit accommodation. Such high-handedness is unacceptable in any civilized society and can only lead to further disenchantment of the people from administrative machinery and alienation from recourse to law. Other households have been demanding their inclusion in the housing scheme of ashtabhuja society as project affected person (PAPs) since this was accepted by the ashtabhuja society when they were granted the land for the housing project inspite of about 600 families living on the land at the time of allotment.

Ms Medha Patkar had called and spoken to Chief Minister asking him to intervene in the matter and not to permit eviction and demolition of houses till the process of enquiry is completed and justice is assured. He had promised to do the same but with no avail.
Eviction notices were handed out on 19th May, 2014 at 1 PM. showing exemplary promptness and utmost loyalty to their builder benefactors, officials carried out demolitions much before the stipulated deadline of 24 hours was over. At 9.30 AM, 600 families including children, senior citizens and a large number of women were thrown on the streets. Their personal possessions lie buried in the rubble and in the scorching heat and an impending monsoon, all these citizens of Mumbai have been cruelly left at the mercy of nature.

In the past 11 years, SRA plans have shown little progress. The CAG report for Maharashtra (Civil) dated 31st march 2011 clearly indicates the failure of this scheme.

It is important for media to note the fact that in the past, Chief Promoter of the SRA – Moreshwar Koli and aides of Samarth Spark Developers led by Dattaji Desai and Raju Salve have taken violent measures to take over the land. They are responsible for not just intimidation, but goons were hired on 10th July, 2011 to inflict serious assault on members of Ambedkar Basti.

At this hour of extreme injustice, we seek the support of all citizens of this country who believe in the basic right of shelter for all human beings. Demolition is an act of violence with official sanction; its victims are poor who are living in shanties not out of choice. By criminalizing hard-working women and innocent children, Mumbai will only become a city but without a heart.

History gets written at the first auction for the Pro Kabaddi League

21052014
8 franchises buy the best of Kabaddi for the largest spectacle in India’s oldest sport

20 May 2014, Mumbai: In a historical day for Indian sport, 8 pioneers scripted a new chapter in the future of Kabaddi. Bidding for the world’s finest Kabaddi talent, under the hammer of the traveling gavel, Bob Hayton, at the first ever Pro Kabaddi auction.

With 8 franchises pitting their tactics and strategies in a tightly contested battle for the best, the Bengaluru Bulls, drew first blood winning the bid for star raider, Asian Indoor Games 2013 Gold Medalist, Ajay Thakur for INR. 12,20,000. Drawing inspiration from the Bulls, Patna went all out and brought home World Cup Gold Medalist from 2007, Rakesh Kumar, with a whopping INR. 12,80,000, recording the highest bid of the day. Joining the bidding brigade was Delhi, who won the bid for 2010 Asian Beach Games Gold Medalist, Surjeet Narwal at INR.12, 20,000.

Having picked their marquee players from Category A, team owners did not hold back in their raid for category B players, with The Telugu Titans setting the tone for the afternoon with an astounding winning bid for young blood from Jharkand, Deepak Niwas at INR. 12,60,000, capitalizing on the depth of young talent in Category B. The Puneri Paltans, who closed their bids in category A as one of the lowest spenders, were fearless when they bid and won the strong defense of Manoj Kumar at INR.9, 10,000.

Commenting on his extreme fortune at taking home the highest pay, Rakesh Kumar was overjoyed when contacted  “This was a wonderful initiative by the federation for the benefit of all players and the sport across the globe. This is a real game-changer in the field of professional Kabaddi and is a huge step in building an infrastructure that will allow people to make a living through a sport they all love. While being delighted to receive a phone call from Mr. Chaturvedi letting me know of my good fortune, I also look forward to the quality of play that I shall be exposed to.”

Adding his thoughts on the auction, President International Kabaddi Federation, Janardan Singh Ghelot said “I am happy to be witness to this day. This is a huge boost of confidence for the Kabaddi fraternity across the globe. The financial backing that the league promises is a great sign to come. We are inching closer to our mission of making Kabaddi an Olympic sport.”

“Today is a landmark day, a phenomenal start, for what should be a memorable three months to follow. Every franchise has contributed immensely towards the development of sport by injecting a massive dose of belief, commitment and respect that the sport has always deserved. We at Mashal may have started the crusade but are delighted to now be joined by a very impressive list of reputed organizations.”

On the background of this revolution in sport, Arjuna Awardee Raju Bhavsar commented, “It is heartwarming to see how far this sport has progressed, the difference almost night and day! I never thought, that in my lifetime I would be witness to a moment where a Professional Kabaddi player would be valued at such high numbers – truly worth his while. This day will go down in the history books in gold – this is the new dawn for Kabaddi.”

The cricket pitch of Zee 20 Cricket League saw TV stars reuniting and bonding over selfies

From having been paired together during various awards shows to auditioning for the same roles to having met socially at parties, a vast majority of Zee TVⳠactors who were roped in to play seem to have crossed paths and bonded in the past. With the action-packed lives daily soap stars lead and the grind of delivering episodes on time, there seems to be little time on hand for these actors to stay in touch with each other. However, Zee TVⳠZee 20 Cricket League was an exception which not only allowed these actors to cool their heels and take a break from their routine daily soap schedule, but also allowed them to connect with their old friends and make some new ones too.

Whether it was Shabbir Ahluwalia (Abhi of Kumkum Bhagya), Karanveer Bohra (Aahil of Qubool Hai), Suresh Menon (Gangs of Hasseepur) and Ashish Chaudhary (Raghav of Ek Mutthi Aasman) who connected after ages or Surbhi Jyoti (Sanam of Qubool Hai) and Neha Marda (Urmi of Doli Armaanon Ki) who met each other for the first time, these actors seemed to have a gala time during the three day shoot of the Cricket League. While they shot for this extravaganza of drama and cricket, they also ensured that they did not miss out on having some fun themselves. The one thing that stood out as a trend was how they all huddled together for group selfies! Supriya Shukla, the adorable mother Sarla Arora of Kumkum Bhagya coined a term for it She said, 㔨ese are Reunion Selfies!䊼o:p>

While this cricket league got a lot of actors to reconnect with each other, there were certain actors like Lauren Gottileb who also got a chance to bond with her fans 妮bsp; check her clicking a selfie with her fans roaring in the background !

Do not miss the Zee 20 Cricket League, this Saturday, 24th May from 6 9 PM, Only on ZEE TV!

NATIONAL CONSULTATION ON MANTHAN

21052014

National Consultation on Manthan: Reflections on the Future held on 13-14 March, 2014 at VYK, New Delhi
29
Closure
The last session, was paneled by Mr. Harsh Jaitli and Dr. Jayant Kumar. Speaking in context of the two day
consultation that was held, Mr. Jaitli opened the session by thanking everyone for contributing in the success
of the consultation. Commenting that the enthusiasm for the consultation had grown every year, Mr. Jaitli
said it was wonderful to see the valuable contributions being made in terms of suggestions and comments
offered during the sessions. Before giving the dais to Dr. Jayant Kumar to speak on the closure, Mr. Jaitli
appealed that the need to make the sessions more interesting were by having enriching feedback sessions
which would help in making the sessions more interesting in the coming future.
Dr. Jayant Kumar opened his address by thanking everyone who was present at the consultation. Dr Jayant
Kumar said that only through taking these suggestions forward would a fruitful future strategy emerge. Dr.
Jayant Kumar reiterated that the ultimate decision of implementation lay in the hands of the Working
Committee and Annual General Body of VANI. Opening the floor for suggestions from the participants, Dr.
Jayant Kumar enumerated that:
• VANI had diversified its activity and area of scope by being active in the rural areas.
• VANI had taken up issues which were of parochial nature by bringing them up in the national arena.
Labeling VANI as a potent platform, Dr. Jayant Kumar hoped to see VANI playing a much wider role in the
future in terms of negotiations with the government working on behalf of the voluntary sector. Mentioning
the relevance of convening this meet he stressed that the most important session was when the participants
gave their suggestions for improvements in the format of the National consultation.
A participant from Maharashtra thanked VANI for organizing the consultation, commenting that the
penetration of VANI into regional areas was a boon for many VOs limited to the parochial level. She also
commented that the creation MAHAVAN, catering to VOs in Maharashtra had been fashioned after VANI.
The participant suggested that future consultations should have cultural programs in order to educate others
about the diversity the consultation has.
Another participant from Madhya Pradesh while congratulated the success of the consultation, said it was
disheartening to see that many panelists had drawn out at the very end. The participant suggested selection
criteria in future for the selection of only those panelists who were committed to participating in discussions
regarding the voluntary sector. A second suggestion from the participant was the inclusion of young people
in the working committee so as to bring to VANI innovative ideas. Thirdly, it was suggested to have a date
fixed for the consultation somewhere in the mid of February not beginning of March as many organizations
were busy compiling their financial record statements.
A participant recommended that a consolidated directory of VOs should be brought out which can be
distributed to state level officers.
A participant from Jammu and Kashmir thanked the Facebook page of VANI for making him aware of the
existence of the organization. He commented a similar approach was being followed in the J&K where
alliances of VOs were collectively forming a platform.
A participant from North-east suggested VANI to hold one of its AGM in one of the seven states.
A participant from Bihar invited VANI to have one of its consultative meetings in Bihar.
Dr. Jayant Kumar thanked every participant for making the journey to Delhi and being part of the
consultation. Dr. Kumar noted that the suggestion regarding the format of the National Consultation will be
examined in the meeting of the working committee which be seen bearing in mind the optimum time when

The Disturbing Truth About The Food You Eat – The Illusion of Choice [INFOGRAPHIC]
Hi Naresh Kumar,
When buying soft drinks, which brand do you choose: 7Up, Dr Pepper or Schweppes? It doesn’t matter. Your choice is just an illusion, since you’re still buying from a single company that makes all these brands – Dr Pepper.
The same is true for other product groups like coffee, butter or soda. In the competition for a slice of America’s $603-Billion grocery business there are only 4 big companies that count in each product category. We’ve analyzed food reports from US Department of Agriculture and other credible sources and gathered the findings in our newest infographic that paints a very grim picture of the food industry today: http://comparisons.financesonline.com/top-grocery-brands-comparison/.
Did you know that:
  • Quaker Oats, which you may view as a healthy food, is produced by PepsiCo, a company which is known for its notorious love for junk food.
  • 91% of the soda market is owned by only Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Dr Pepper Group?
  • Nestle is the world’s largest food company and owns almost 8,000 brands?
You can share this infographic and let your readers find out how little choice they actually have when grocery shopping for food. Do you think they will find this interesting? By the way, the infographic is free to use, but kindly credit us, the creators, as the source of the infographic.
Please share your thoughts.

There are about 30 Indian companies in Spain in the fields of IT, automobiles, pharmaceuticals and road maintenance. However, there has been a drop in the bilateral trade in the year 2012, which is mainly due to reduced imports by Spain in a time of economic downturn. Hence, may we request you to kindly make it convenient to attend the above mentioned program to explore the business opportunities.
