GERMAN LIFTS CONFEDERATION CUP FOOTBALL

Germany have lifted their maiden Confederation Cup Football title. In the final played at St Petersburg last night, the four-time World Cup winners defeated Chile by a solitary goal. Lars Stindl put Germany ahead in the first half against the run of play, and Germany then held on to the lead.
Copa America winners Chile dominated ball possession from start to finish, but could not score despite getting a plethora of chances.
Earlier, in the third-place play-off match in Moscow, Portugal defeated Mexico 2-1. Luis Neto bundled into his own net to hand Mexico a
54th-minute lead, but centre-back Pepe stabbed home a stoppage-time equaliser to force an extra 30 minutes at Spartak Stadium. Adrien Silva then scored an extra-time penalty to give victory to Portugal. For Silva, it was his first international goal.
In the group stage of the tournament, the match between Portugal and Mexico had ended in a 2-2 draw.
European champions Portugal were without captain Cristiano Ronaldo after the Real Madrid star was released from the squad to return home to meet his newborn twins.

WEST INDIES BEAT INDIA IN 4TH ODI

Windies Cricket won the toss and bat first against the Indian Cricket Team in the 4th ODI in Antigua in series of five ODI.
India lost to West Indies by eleven runs in the fourth cricket One-day International in Antigua last night.
Chasing a target of 190 runs, India were all out for 178 in 49.4 overs. For the hosts, captain and Man of the Match Jason Holder claimed a rich haul of 5 wickets for 27 runs in 9.4 overs.
Earlier, electing to bat, the hosts made189 for 9 in the stipulated 50 overs.
Chasing  moderate total of 190, India lost three wickets, including that of Virat Kohli, inside the 50-run mark before Ajinkya Rahane (60 off 91) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (54 off 114) steadied the ship with a crawling but crucial 54-run stand for the fourth wicket.
India couldn’t finish off the chase as they witnessed another collapse towards the end with Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Dhoni departing in series of succession.
“The plan was for somebody to bat deeper into the innings. That’s what Ajinkya did till he got out. Till that time we were on course but suddenly we lost couple of wickets. Those wickets in the middle overs actually pushed us back. The run rate just kept on creeping higher and higher,” Bangar said at the post-match press conference.
The batting coach rued the shot-selection of Indian batsmen and said the platform was ideal for the lower middle- order to prove its worth.
“That is the goal of the team. You need to put the players in those situations which they are going to encounter at that particular position. Kedar at No.6 or Hardik at No.7. You need to see how they handle the pressure and how they need to make sure the team finishes the crossing line.
“These are big experiences for them. When Hardik, Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja) got out it was still run-a-ball. In these situations shot selection was really crucial and at times I just felt they erred in that,” Bangar said.
India now lead the series 2-1. The fifth and final One-Dayer will be played at Kingston, Jamaica, on Thursday.
