Saudi Arabian princes detained
Saudi Arabia, 11 princes have been detained after staging a protest at a royal palace in the capital Riyadh.
Public prosecutors said on Saturday that they had detained 11 princes for disturbing public order. They said the princes were protesting the move to end state payments of water and electricity bills for members of the royal family.
Since Mohammed bin Salman became Crown Prince last year, the oil-producing country has been trying to reform its economy to lessen dependence on oil production. The government is also trying to deal with a budget deficit caused by lower oil prices.
Jordan agree,UN request to send aid to stranded Syrians
Jordan today said it had agreed to a UN request to deliver humanitarian aid to tens of thousands of Syrians stranded near a border crossing between the two countries. Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammed al-Kayed said it will be a “one-off” operation to send humanitarian aid across the Rukban border crossing.
According to UN estimates based on satellite images, between 45 thousand and 50 thousand Syrians have been stuck for months on the Syrian side of the frontier near the Rukban border
crossing. Conditions are worsening for them as winter grips the

German opposition:Reverse online hate speech law
New online hate speech regulations which took effect Monday, stipulates that German authorities can impose huge fines of up to €50 million ($60.1 million) on social media platforms which fail to promptly delete offensive content. The parliamentary leader of the Left Party, Sahra Wagenknecht, called the legislation a “slap in the face for all democratic principles,” claiming the courts, rather than private companies, should determine what constitutes unlawful content. Nicola Beer, the General Secretary of the liberal Free Democrats (FDP), expressed similar sentiments. “The past few days have clearly shown private providers aren’t always able to make the right decision,” she told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper. Other politicians, such as the leader of the Greens, Simone Peter, argued the law hampered free speech in Germany, leaving it at hands of US corporations to decide what was “hate speech” and what was not.

UMC cuts spending to improve profit
United Microelectronics, the world’s no.3 contract chipmaker by market share, is hoping that it can offset headwinds in the quickly maturing smartphone market by tapping into the nascent field of artificial intelligence applications used in cars and consumer electronics.
“We don’t see that standardized chips such as core processors for mobile phones that are already shipping in large volumes will grow much, but we see substantial growth from various sensors, microcontrollers, or driver ICs [integrated circuit chips] collectively used to activate new AI features for electronic devices and vehicles,” said S.C. Chien, co-president of UMC in an exclusive interview with Nikkei Asian Review on Dec. 15.
Chien said that some areas that his company will venture into include bio-sensing, voice-activated speakers, advanced driver assistance system, or ADAS, and in-vehicle infotainment systems — a field known as edge AI.
While UMC sees itself as capable of developing edge AI, the company seems unable to afford to expand into cloud AI, which requires advanced data center servers offering massive computing power to handle complex tasks such as processing a large amount of photos and videos.
Panasonic is partnering with Taiwanese chip foundry United Microelectronics Corp. to develop and mass-produce a power-miserly version of a next-generation type of nonvolatile memory known as resistive random access memory, or ReRAM.
UMC’s bigger rival Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., the world’s largest contract chipmaker, had an advantage in cloud AI. For all of 2017, TSMC spent $10.8 billion, and plans to spend more than $10 billion for the next few years.

Anti-cancer drug when in ruthenium
Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore, Ropar and Guwahati have combined ruthenium, a metal which is part of the platinum group, with commonly used pain killers, categorized as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, to develop four new drug complexes.
Anti-cancer activities of four new combination drugs with ruthenium — complex 1 (with naproxen), complex 2 (with diclofenac), complex 3 (with ibuprofen) and complex 4 (with aspirin) — were tested against lung, breast and cervix cancer cell lines in laboratory.
Complex 3 is more effective in preventing the enzyme causing pain and swelling, followed by complex 2 and complex 1. Complexes 2 and 3 have shown remarkable effects in stopping the growth of cancer cells in lung, breast and cervical cancer.
The study is sound and academically interesting, is regarded as indicative rather than conclusive. It is still preliminary to be adjudged as mainstay treatment.

Punjab Can Triple Milk, Poultry Production, Hunger Free India
January08, 2018 (C) Ravinder Singh progressindia2015@gmail.com
Punjab can triple Milk, Poultry production by 200% and Food-grains by 50% with little or no central assistance and produce enough food to eradicate HUNGER from India. Obviously fertile Ganga Basin would also contribute.
From 1.6% land area Punjab produces 11%-12% of Food-grainscan be further increased by 50% with the introduction HY Cornand Oilseed crops* in between two main crops – largely eliminating Paddy cultivation – Switch to more Productive Crop that requires fewer manpower, REDUCE WATER USE FOR IRRIGATION. *Soybean, Sunflower & Canola.
NDDB reports Punjab has 42 mt of Total Digestible Nutrientsagainst requirement of 13.7 mt but need to switch to premium sources like Corn & Foddar Crops, Oilseeds are Energy Crops draw minimum of Nutrients – when waste is Re-Cycled locally.
Alternately Punjab can convert 28mt of Farm waste in to Ethanolbut Eliminating Hunger is More Urgent or it could be MIX Program as Market evolves.
FDI in Food Processing is 100% so NRIs and Foreign companies have huge opportunity and Indian Investment can be Spread Wider with foreign participation.
