SEPANG, 26 JULY 2012 – The Queens Park Rangers (QPR) 2012 Asia Tour came to an end on Monday, 23 July 2012 after the team beat local favourites Persebaya in Surabaya, Indonesia. Before QPR departed from Surabaya, the team thanked their official partner, AirAsia with a special thank you message at the Juanda International Airport.

The team lined up in front of the newly launched Alan Macdonald tribute aircraft which features the QPR livery holding large placards which spelt ‘THANK YOU AIRASIA’.
The QPR Asia Tour was held in three different cities beginning with Kota Kinabalu followed by Kuala Lumpur where the Rangers respectively beat both Sabah Select and Kelantan FA with a comfortable 5-0 win. Their last game in Surabaya saw QPR beating Persebaya with a 2-1 score.

QPR Team Manager Mark Hughes commented on the tour, “It was the prefect preparation for us. The tour was great and one that we will remember for a very long time to come. From our point of view, it was a fitness preparation and we were able to get a lot of game time into almost all the squad. In the end we were able to win all three games, which were important for us and have helped us prepare for the upcoming Premier League.”

President-elect Hassan Rohani, sixty four years old, is known as a moderate conservative. He has been stressing the need to improve ties with Western nations, and is back...
Save Dissent to Save Democracy   THE rising instances of physical violence and threats against political opponents and the inability to accept dissent must raise huge concerns amongst all of us who see democracy as perhaps the really stellar achievement since Independence. AAP’s attack on BJP headquarters and acts of arson committed under the very noses of their elite leadership; the attacks on Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in Gujarat in the last two days; the recent manhandling of the caretaker of journalist Siddharth Varadarajan’s house by some garden variety thugs; and the violence and threats meted out regularly to their political opponents by political parties is surely deplorable and condemnable. This is a fatally flawed trend which will destroy the very foundations of our democratic institutions if not pushed back with all the strength and condemnation that the civil society can mobilise. Replaying the past To begin with, it must be clarified that we should ...
