| US-led coalition launches 14 air strikes against Islamic State |
The United States led coalition forces staged 14 air strikes against Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq since early Monday, according to the Combined Joint Task Force leading the operations. The strikes included six aerial attacks near the key Syrian border town of Kobani, where three units of the militant fighters were hit, the task force said in a statement today. In Iraq, seven strikes were staged near Mosul, al Asad, Bayji, Ramadi and Sinjar, striking three Islamic State units and a checkpoint among other targets. |
Rouhani wins Iran's Presidential election Moderate cleric Hassan Rouhani won Iran's presidential election on Saturday, the interior ministry said, scoring a surprising landslide victory over conservative hardliners without the need of a second round run-off.Interior minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar announced on state television that Rouhani secured just over 50 percent of the ballot based on a 72 percent turnout of 50 million eligible voters.
