Manipur assembly poll notification issued


The notification for the 28th January Manipur assembly elections has been issued by the state election office, official sources said.

As per the notification, candidates would be allowed to file their nomination papers between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Wednesday till 11th January.

Although 6th and 9th January are holidays because of ‘Emoinu festival’ (a local festival) and death anniversary of former Manipur king Gambhir Singh, candidates would be allowed to file their nominations.

The scrutiny of papers would be taken up on 12th January, the sources said.

Withdrawal of nomination papers was fixed on 14th January.

Manipur has a total electorate of 1677270, Punjab 17433408, Uttarakhand 5740148, Uttar Pradesh 111916689 and Goa 1011673.

Electronic voting machines will be used in all the polling booths in the assembly elections.

Manipur will have 2325 polling stations, Punjab 19724, Uttarakhand 9744, Uttar Pradesh 128112 and Goa 1612.

China communist party congress to open Nov.8

China's Communist Party to convene its National Congress on November 8th. Vice President Xi Jinping is expected to assume the top leadership.On Friday the party's Political Bureau decided the date of the meeting, held once every 5 years.
