The annual bio-diversity festival in the name of 'Community Seed Fair' being celebrated by the indigenous adivasi farmers of Malkangiri draws scores of traditional seeds, samples of minor forest produces, local agro implements and shared among thousands of farmers. The conclave also deliberate upon knowledge and practices related to sustainable agriculture systems focussed on local food chain. This year the Community seed fair at Malkangiri in Odisha state is being scheduled for the dates 24th, 26thd and 28th of February 2012. On 29th there will be conclave of the Community Seed Mothers to deliberate upon the local indigeneous seeds and the cropping systems. We welcome you to participate in this fair and encourage the indigenous farmers. We would appreciate if you bring the local farmers of your area to join this fair. Yes if you bring any kind of seeds it can be exchanged in these seed fairs. There will be more than 250 varieties of seeds would get displayed in these seed fairs and farmers are free to exchange their seeds here. We don't' allow seed industries to collect seeds from here and there are no seeds on sale on this occasion. We estimate that there are more than 75 varieties of heritage seeds available in this area. If you wish can participate in the fair. The nearest airport is Bhubaneswar (the state capital of Odisha state about 700kms away). The airport at Vishakhapatnam (in Andhra Pradesh) can also be used at it is about 250kms away. The nearest railway station is Koraput and from here buses to Malkangiri is available during 6am till 6pm. The rail station at Vizainagaram (in Andhra Pradesh) is linked with buses all the time. If you reach Vizainagaram by 8pm in the evening you can get an overnight push back bus up to Malkangiri (reach Malkangiri by 8am next morning).
