DELHI SET TO WITNESS THE 3RD EDITION OF THE NORTH EAST FESTIVAL FROM OCTOBER 16-18

New Delhi, 01 October 2015: The North East Festival is back to enthral Delhi as the 3rdedition of the festival returns to the capital. Bigger and better than before with some special additions, the festival will be held at IGNCA, Janpath, New Delhi from October 16 – October 18, 2015. Apart from showcasing the best that North East has to offer, promoting and boosting tourism in region will be the key focus of this year’s edition of the North East Festival.
The “North East Festival”, has become a brand which is synonymous with the unification of the various stakeholders of North East under one dynamic platform. North East Festival is organised by the reputed socio-cultural trust, Trend MMS, in association with IGNCA and North East Today. The event is expected to be attended by more than three lakh people, and will include top North East icons, policymakers of the country, Senior Ministers in Union Cabinet, Chief Ministers of various North Eastern States, top bureaucrats, intellectuals, students, and tour operators, among others.
Besides tourism, the major attraction this year is the commencement of the North East Festival Football Competition, driven by Indian Collegiate Athletic Program (ICAP) , the inaugural edition of which will be held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from October 9 – October 15. Football is a major sport in the North East and the region has produced many of India’s top footballers, and the competition is a celebration of the association between the people of the North East and this wonderful sport. The competition will feature over 25 teams, comprising of college teams from the NCR region and North East.
Speaking about this year’s edition, Shyamkanu Mahanta, Organiser in Chief, North East Festival said, “This year, tourism is the key focus and the festival would bring forth various facets of the North East. With the enthusiastic support of Delhi Tourism, we are inviting tour operators across Delhi to be a part of the North East Festival and we expect, many foreign tourists as well.”
He added, “Various festivals of North East would be showcased during NEF. Around 60 tribal artisans and textile entrepreneurs would exhibit the best of North East handloom & handicrafts.”

FIBA Asia Championship India loses to Korea, to face Qatar in final classification game
BENGALURU/CHANGSHA, 02 October 2015: Hoping to gain maximum exposure from the 28th FIBA Asia Championship, the Indian men’s team rigorously tested its young bench in a loss to Korea earlier today. This was a classification game for 5th-8thpositions, and next India will play its final 7th-8th position match against Qatar tomorrow. Irrespective of the outcome, India is assured of its best ever finish in 12 years.
India (Amjyot Singh 24, Amritpal Singh 18) lost to Korea (Taeyoung Moon 22, Sungmin Cho 16) 72-117 [21-29, 14-30, 15-30, 28-22]
Saran Singh to replace injured Lalrindika Ralte
Mumbai, 02nd October 2015: Thangjam Saran Singh will replace Lalrindika Ralte (fondly known as Dika) in the Mumbai City FC squad for the second season of ISL-II due to an ankle injury. Saran Singh, who plays midfield for Salgaocar FC comes in to replace the attacking midfielder – Dika, who was a constant threat to the opposition during the inaugural season of ISL.
Saran Singh who joined Salgaocar FC last year will look to make a mark at Mumbai City FC from the word go. He has also scored the winner for Salgaocar FC in 2014 Durand Cup final. Before Salgaocar FC, he achieved a lot of success playing for Churchill Brothers, winning the I-League – twice, IFA Shield – once, Duran Cup – twice and Indian Federation Cup – once.
Commenting on the announcement, Indranil Das Blah, CEO, Mumbai City FC said,“It’;s unfortunate to let go of a player of Dika’;s calibre. He’;s someone who was with us last season as well and we were looking forward to having him as an integral part of the team. We wish him all the very best and hope he recovers soon.”
The 2nd edition of the Hero Indian Super League begins on 3rd October in Chennai. Mumbai City FC will play their first match against FC Pune City at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium, Pune on 5th October.
