Chikkarangappa win PGTI Eagleburg Masters

Chikkarangappa turns it around on final day of PGTI Eagleburg Masters; Wins on home course for third time

Dharma & Gangjee are joint runners-up

Eagleton – The Golf Resort, Bengaluru, September 9, 2016: Bengaluru’s Chikkarangappa S came through at his home course Eagleton, for the third time, after enduring a tough week with the putter. Chikka shot a sparkling five-under-67, when it mattered most in the final round, to end up with a winning total of 15-under-273.

With M Dharma (69) and Rahil Gangjee (70) finishing as joint runners-up at 13-under-275, the host city of Bengaluru, bagged the top three positions in the tournament.

Chikkarangappa (67-69-70-67), lying overnight tied second, one off the lead, lived up to the tag of being the pre-tournament favourite with a timely 67 in the final round. The 22-year-old reigning Rolex Ranking champion, who had struggled with his putting through the week, got his confidence going early in round four when he converted a 12-feet birdie putt on the fourth, the first par-5 on the course.

As Chikka picked up birdies on the next two par-5s, the seventh and 10th, and followed that up with another on the 11th, his confidence soared. Then there was a minor hiccup for him against the run of play on the 14thwhere he dropped a stroke.

But the two-time winner on the Asian Development Tour came roaring back with a birdie on the 15th to make it four out of four on the par-5s. Thereafter, Chikka took a decisive two-shot lead over closest rivals M Dharma and Rahil Gangjee, with his last birdie on the 17th where he drove the green.

He finally crossed the finish line two ahead of the rest to the delight of the local crowd that included his close friend and India’s golfing numero uno Anirban Lahiri.

A relieved Chikka, who had closed the third round with three consecutive bogeys, said, “I feel tough situations bring out the best in me. I never felt the pressure today and just focused on converting putts, making birdies and achieving my target total of 15-under.

“With the way I putted this week, I still can’t believe that I shot a 15-under. I had a good practice session with Anirban and my coach Mr. Vijay Divecha yesterday. Both of them suggested some minor adjustments in my putting that worked out well for me.

“Playing at Eagleton, I always believe that I can get out of difficult situations as I’ve successfully done that a few times in the past. I think the birdie conversion from 12 feet on the fourth was the crucial moment of the day as it lifted my morale early in the round,” added Chikka, who won his ninth career title (eighth on the PGTI).

Chikka, who took home the winner’s cheque worth Rs. 4,50,000 has now climbed from 28th to 12th position in the Rolex Ranking as his season’s earnings reached Rs. 7,41,700. Panchkula-based Shubhankar Sharma continues to lead the rankings with earnings of Rs. 15,45,180 for the season.

M Dharma (65-73-68-69) secured his second joint runner-up finish of the season and moved up one spot from seventh to sixth in the money list. Dharma shot a bogey-free 69 on day four.

Dharma said, “I had a decent round but missing out on opportunities on the par-5s cost me dearly. I birdied just one par-5 in the final round. That wasn’t good enough as I couldn’t push Chikka on the back-nine. Nonetheless, it’s been a fantastic week for me that got me back in the groove.”

Rahil Gangjee (68-72-65-70), the round three leader, conceded his lead early on in round four when he dropped bogeys on the first and third after missing putts from close range. Gangjee, playing his first event of the current PGTI season, registered four birdies thereafter but finally couldn’t catch up with Chikka.

Faridabad’s Abhinav Lohan finished fourth at 10-under-278 while Gurgaon’s Manu Gandas claimed fifth place at nine-under-279.

Dunamis launches Chris Gayle’s autobiography, ‘Six Machine’,
Launched by BCCI President, Lt. Anurag Singh Thakur & Virender Sehwag
Book launch in Delhi organised by Dunamis Sportainment in association with Penguin India
New Delhi, September 9, 2016: Aggressive, cavalier, dangerous, and unabashedly flamboyant – these are but a few adjectives that pop into one’s mind when one thinks of Christopher Henry Gayle, a man both feared and admired by his competition. He is just as capable of singlehandedly demolishing entire bowling attacks on whim, as he is of partying late into the night. But what does it feel like to be in the shoes of a man who, through explosive sporting feats on the field and his colourful lifestyle off it, has secured his place in the annals of history and the hearts and minds of cricket fans around the globe? The answer to this question, and several others, is finally revealed to Indian cricket fans with the launch of Chris Gayle’s autobiography, ‘Six Machine’. Published by Viking – Penguin UK, the book was unveiled today by Lt. Anurag Singh Thakur, President – BCCI at a gala event in Delhi, which was organised by Dunamis Sportainment in association with Penguin India.
Speaking on the launch of his autobiography, Chris Gayle said, “I’m really excited about releasing my first book. I hope it can reach far and wide, through cricket and beyond, for there are stories to tell and secrets I’ve waited a long time to share. Being me is fun. I don’t believe in boring. And Six Machine is me, in every way.”
Abhishek Misra, Co-founder, Dunamis Sportainment, added, “Chris, today, is one of the biggest sports stars in the world. He is a fan favourite, an entertainer, who has gained massive support for his sporting genius. ‘Six Machine’ is his tale, told in his inimitable style, of life from his own perspective. We are proud to be associated with the launch, and are confident that the book will delight and entertain readers in pretty much the same way as Chris has over the years.”
Lt. Anurag Singh Thakur, Member of Parliament and President of the BCCI, said, “The title of Chris Gayle’s autobiography, ‘Six Machine’ aptly describes him and it has indeed been sheer delight to witness the cricket phenomenon created by him. He is one of those fine cricketers whose success will not solely be measured basis the score sheet. He has enthralled the audience with his batting skills, and will certainly continue to do so. I am happy to be associated with the launch of his autobiography, and wish ‘Six Machine’ all the success.”
Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag also commented on the launch, saying, “Chris is one of the most fun-loving and genuine people that I’ve had the pleasure to interact with. His love for cricket shines through in his batting. I am glad that more people will now get to know the real Chris, the person behind the persona. I am confident that ‘Six Machine’ will be well received by cricketing fans around the world.”
True to his style, ‘Six Machine’ is a no-holds-barred take on life by Chris Gayle. The book chronicles how a shy, skinny kid from a tin-roofed shack in the back streets of Kingston became one of the most well-known stars in the global cricketing arena. The story tells of more than just sporting genius; it is a compelling narrative of Chris’ struggle, of battling prejudices, and still emerging unscathed with a broad smile on his face. ‘Six Machine’ is available for INR 599 at all major online and offline bookstores.
