Donetsk, Lugansk Republics announce ceasefire in E. Ukraine

The Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republic’s in eastern Ukraine have announced a ceasefire in Donbas effective from 08:00 GMT on Sunday, Eduard Basurin, Donetsk People’s Republic’s (DPR) Deputy Defense Minister has said. “We proposed to stop shelling via representatives in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination [JCCC],” he said. The truce has so far been respected, with the rest depending on Kiev and how it “would manage to control the radicals,” Basurin said. The conflict in eastern Ukraine has been raging since 2014, despite an ‘agreement’ to fully cease hostilities as outlined in the Minsk peace deal signed two years ago.

Juppe not in run in French presidential election

Former Prime Minister Alain Juppe said on Monday he would not run in France’s presidential election and harshly criticized his party’s beleaguered candidate, Francois Fillon. Juppe, who came second to Fillon in the party’s primaries in November, had been touted as a potential replacement for Fillon, engulfed by a financial scandal. “I confirm once and for all that I will not be candidate to the presidency of the Republic,” Juppe said in his hometown of Bordeaux, adding that it was because it had become harder than ever to unite his conservative The Republicans party and because voters wanted fresh faces. “What a waste!,” Juppe said of the Fillon campaign, hit by allegations that Fillon misued public funds.
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has called for a meeting with Francois Fillon and Alain Juppe to discuss current problems regarding Fillon’s presidential election campaign. Sarkozy, who published a statement on his official Twitter feed, said the aim of the meeting was to ensure a “dignified and credible way out from a situation which cannot last any longer and which is the source of deep concerns among French people.” Once the frontrunner, Fillon is mired in a scandal over hundreds of thousands of euros of public money he paid his wife to be his parliamentary assistant. He denies allegations she did little work for the money.

China,Russia is concerned about North Korea’s new missile launches

Russia is concerned about North Korea’s new missile launches, which may lead to increased tensions in the region and urges all parties to show restraint, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday. “Of course, we are profoundly concerned. These actions lead to further escalation of tensions in the region,” TASS quoted him as saying. “In this situation, Moscow traditionally calls on all parties to show restraint.” Russia will exchange views with all parties concerned, he said, commenting on media reports saying that Tokyo is planning to discuss the situation with Moscow.
China strongly opposes North Korea launching missiles, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Monday. “As for the launches by North Korea, we have seen the information… China opposes launches,” Sputnik quoted ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang as saying. Three of the four missiles North Korea reportedly launched earlier in the day fell into the Japanese exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan without inflicting damages, the Japanese Defense Ministry said.

Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, to succeed fellow Pole Tusk

Poland’s foreign minister says the government’s surprise counter-candidate to challenge incumbent Donald Tusk for European Council head is “Poland’s only candidate in the game.” Poland has proposed Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, 68, a center-right member of the European Parliament, to succeed fellow Pole Tusk, whose term ends May 31. Warsaw refuses to back a second term for Tusk, a former Polish prime minister, saying he supports anti-government opposition in Poland and has failed to protect the country’s interests in the EU.

EU clears Hungary to build Russian backed nuke reactors

The EU has cleared Hungary to provide state aid to build two nuclear reactors with Russian help after Budapest made commitments to safeguard competition in the energy sector. The Hungarian deal for Russia to build the two additional reactors at the Paks nuclear plant, which was struck three years ago, had been held up because of the EU’s regulatory demands. Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said he hopes to start construction soon once approval is agreed upon. EU Antitrust Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said that “the Hungarian government has made substantial commitments, which has allowed the Commission to approve the investment under EU state aid rules.”

Duterte proposes another UN August 21, 2016 Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte railed against the United Nations today after it called for an end to the wave of killings unleashed by his war on drugs, saying he might leave the organisation. Duterte also said the Philippines will invite China and African nations to form another global organisation in place of United Nations, as world body is not doing enough to address hunger and terrorism. There appears to be human rights working for terrorist and mafia in third world to keep their states in dire state. Two UN human rights experts last week urged Manila to stop the extra-judicial executions and killings that have escalated since Duterte won the Presidency. About 900 suspected drug traffickers have been killed since he came to power after winning the election on May 9.
