Mass rally in Cairo's Tahrir Square ahead of election
Protesters in Egypt opposed to military rule, have called for a big turnout at a rally today ahead of the country's election on Monday, the first polls since the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak earlier this year. They have called for massive protests in Cairo's Tahrir Square and across the country to demand an immediate end to military rule. They are also calling for the immediate trial of all those involved in killing demonstrators. Reports say that more than 40 people have died in the past week in clashes between protesters and the police.
Meanwhile, one of Egypt's main Presidential candidates, Mohammed El Baradei has said that he is willing to drop his bid for Presidentship in Monday's elections if he is asked to lead a Transitional Government as Prime Minister. El Baradei's statement comes after the Head of the Government Military Council, Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi held talks with him and other leading Presidential candidates.
