The unexpected escalation followed days of protests by hundreds of Egyptians outside the Saudi Embassy in Cairo and consulates in other cities to demand the release of Ahmed el-Gezawi. Relatives and human rights groups say he was detained for allegedly insulting the kingdom’s monarch. Saudi authorities denied that and said he was arrested for trying to smuggle anti-anxiety drugs into the oil-rich kingdom. The two Indian cities mentioned in the Asian tally of twenty two were Kolkata and Mumbai. For Indian readers, a more interesting addition to my library this week is a thought provoking book by Ruchir Sharma, head of Emerging Market Equities and Global Macro at Morgan Stanley Investment Management. In this book titled Breakout Nations, the author, who is based in New York, affirms that “the astonishingly rapid growth over the last decade of the world’s celebrated emerging mar...

Lower and Declining Growth in Core Sectors in India The rate of growth of eight core sectors improved from 2.8% in 2008-09 to 6.6% in 2009-10. It moderated to 5.8% in 2010-11. In 2011-12(Apr-Feb), eight core sectors recorded a growth of 4.4% compared to a growth of 5.8% in the corresponding period of 2010-11. Lower growth rate during 2011-12 has mainly been due to a lower growth in crude petroleum, natural gas and steel sectors. Government has initiated several steps to augment the production of core sectors by promoting state of the art technologies and by augmenting resources for exploration and mining through private sector participation. To facilitate development of necessary infrastructure, Viability Gap Finding, under the Scheme for support to PPP, has been extended to capital investment in fertilizers sector, oil and gas storage and pipelines facilities. Charity Whispers WINDOWS NOT REALLY OPEN

Bill Gates calls people who oppose vaccines as child killers! But statistics prove otherwise. The number of deaths, diseases and disabilities attributed to vaccines as reported in the US based Vaccines Adverse Effect Reporting System (VAERS) is mind boggling and continues to grow by the day. And, as per the CDC, hardly 10% of vaccine adverse effects ever get recorded!   Bill Gates and his foundation have declared 2010-20 to be a "decade of vaccines". Very recently Gates has persuaded a few world leaders to donate $ 2 billion to his charity towards vaccination of Asian and African children. More countries are expected to follow suit. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has earmarked $ 10 billion for this activity. This brouhaha over vaccines does not bore well for the underweight and malnourished children of Asia and Africa who will be harmed in large numbers unable to bear this antigen overload.    These funds come out of...
