Gagan Narang, Chain Singh and Sanjeev Rajput Through to Qualification Round of 50m Rifle 3 Positions on Day Five of Shooting World Cup
New Delhi, 14 April 2015: India’s Rifle troika of Olympic Bronze Medalist Gagan Narang, Chain Singh and Sanjeev Rajput, survived their respective elimination rounds and made it through to the qualification round for the finals of the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup (Rifle/Pistol) in Changwon, Korea. Among them, Gagan returned the best score with a combined total of 1170 for all the three positions of kneeling, prone and standing. Chain Singh was next best with a score of 1167, while Sanjeev Rajput could shoot a total of 1157. Both the qualification and final round are slated for tomorrow.
In other news from the day, there was disappointment in the Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol, where both Gurpreet Singh and Olympic Silver Medalist Vijay Kumar failed to make it to the final. The duo shot a total of 569 and 562 respectively to be eliminated in qualification.
India has so far won two Bronze Medals in the competition through Pistol Ace Jitu Rai and Women’s Rifle shooter Apurvi Chandela.
