AirAsia Group joins relief efforts in Myanmar

SEPANG, 27 AUG 2015 – AirAsia Group is providing assistance to the flood-stricken communities in Myanmar, where over 1 million people have been critically affected.

As part of the airline group’s efforts, Thai AirAsia is providing sponsorship for its partners, volunteers and space for shipment for relief goods throughout the month of August; while AirAsia Berhad sent across 447kg of supplies including clothes and blankets which will be donated to local relief teams for distribution in Ayeryawaddy Division.

AirAsia’s local team in Myanmar, led by its Yangon Station Manager Ms Wai Lin Aung also delivered donations to the Sagaing Division including dried food, water, cooking utensils, torchlights, batteries, blankets and towels, sanitary items which benefited over 380 families at the affected area.

AirAsia is firmly committed to the philosophy that no corporation can live apart from the community it serves. As a people’s airline, we will always extend a helping hand to the communities we serve in their time of need.

The AirAsia Group was at the forefront of relief efforts in the wake of the tsunami that struck the region in 2004, Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar (2008), Typhoon Nesat in the Philippines (2011), the earthquake which struck Sichuan in China (2008), the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Fukushima, Japan (2011), Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines (2013), the floods in the East Coast of Malaysia (2014), and the recent devastating earthquake which hit Nepal few months ago (2015).

AirAsia has also supported the recovery of Bali, Indonesia, after the terrorist bombings in 2005, by giving away 12,000 free seats on its flights. It mounted rescue flights from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur in November 2008 to help people stranded by the closing of the airport in Bangkok, and similar rescue efforts were extended in Padang and Jakarta in October 2009 to help those affected by the 7.6-magnitude earthquake that hit Sumatra Island.

Duterte proposes another UN August 21, 2016 Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte railed against the United Nations today after it called for an end to the wave of killings unleashed by his war on drugs, saying he might leave the organisation. Duterte also said the Philippines will invite China and African nations to form another global organisation in place of United Nations, as world body is not doing enough to address hunger and terrorism. There appears to be human rights working for terrorist and mafia in third world to keep their states in dire state. Two UN human rights experts last week urged Manila to stop the extra-judicial executions and killings that have escalated since Duterte won the Presidency. About 900 suspected drug traffickers have been killed since he came to power after winning the election on May 9.
