NEW DELHI STUDENTS TO REPRESENT INDIA AT ISEF 2013

New Delhi, 13 May, 2013:  3 of India’s next generation innovators from New Delhi will represent the nation at the 2013 Intel® International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) to be held in Phoenix, Arizona from May 12-17, 2013. These are Akshat Boobna from Amity International School, Saket along with Ishani Goomer and Khanak Bhargava from Amity International School, Mayur Vihar, who have made the entire nation proud by being amongst approximately 1,600 finalists from across the globe to be a part of the world’s largest pre-college science fair, and the only global science competition for students in grades 8-12.

Intel® ISEF is a program run by the Society for Science & the Public (SSP) in partnership with Intel Corporation. The premier global science competition provides an annual forum to pre-college students across the world to display their independent research.
Commenting on the same, Akshat Boobna said “I am extremely excited to be a part of such an esteemed global platform. It would be a great occasion for learning and I look forward to make my country proud. I am indeed thankful to Intel to give me this opportunity.” Ishani Goomer and Khanak Bhargava also echoed similar sentiments.

Bringing together more than 1600 young students from more than 70 countries, Intel® ISEF 2013 is an opportunity for the best young minds in the world to come together to share ideas, showcase cutting-edge projects, and compete for more than US $3 million in awards and scholarships. The winners are selected based on their creative ability and scientific thought, as well as the thoroughness, skill, and clarity shown in their projects. Each of these students will get an ASUS Fonepad, the world’s first Intel® Atom™ Processor based 7 inch tablet. This device will be ideal for the students to carry with them for ISEF as it offers both communication features of a smartphone and entertainment opportunities of tablet in one device.
This year, a total of 2036 IRIS project entries were received from across the country under 10 categories that included a range of solutions in the field of physical & life sciences, mathematics, engineering and social sciences. Of these, 111 projects were showcased at IRIS 2012 held at Bal Bhawan, New Delhi and six projects by 8 students were shortlisted to represent India at Intel® ISEF.

These projects nurture the hidden talent existing within the youngsters of the country, encouraging them to create realistic solutions, through research practices, to scientific challenges that are vital for progress tomorrow”, saidAshutosh Chadha, Director – Corporate Affairs Group, Intel South Asia. ”
Intel® ISEF winners are chosen from 17 categories including behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry, computer science, and engineering: materials & bioengineering, environmental sciences, medicine and health sciences, microbiology and many others. Projects are evaluated by judges from nearly every scientific discipline, each with a Ph.D. or equivalent (six years of related professional experience) in one of the scientific disciplines, and include Nobel laureates and Intel fellows.
