Many Voices, One Movement: Ending Sexual Violence in India

The principle of gender equality is enshrined in the Indian Constitution in its Preamble, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties and Directive Principles. The Constitution not only grants equality to women, but also empowers the State to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favour of women.
Maitri proposes to hold its sixth national conference on Women in India on 20-21 March 2014 at Alliance Francaise, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The theme for the conference this year is Many Voices, One Movement: Ending Sexual Violence in India.Conference focus will be on addressing issues concerning sexual violence. It will address issues of sexual violence in the home, workplace, in public spaces and in conflict zones. It will also discuss the response to sexual violence by health services, law and the media.༯span>
The conference proposes to bring together key stakeholders in this complicated subject in a manner which enriches the thinking of all participants. We hope it will be a learning and sharing opportunity for all the stakeholders as well as give opportunity and a place to develop relationships which will lead to some good outcomes in the future.
