Yuvraj gets the highest price Rs. 14 crore

A total of 514 players will go under the hammer over the next two days. The list features 219 capped players (169 Indians and 50 overseas players) and 292 uncapped players (255 Indians and 37 overseas players).
The big guns including Kevin Pietersen, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, David Warner, Mitchell Johnson, Jacques Kallis, Mahela Jayawardene and Murali Vijay are listed as the marquee players and will be auctioned in Round 1.
All the players mentioned above, save Warner (Rs 1.5 crore), will start with a base price of Rs 2 crore. The third set of specialist batsmen coming up and the first name out is 38-year-old Neil McKenzie of South Africa with a base price of 50 lakh and he remains UNSOLD
The auction, commence at 9.30 am on Wednesday, February 12,  conducted by Richard Madley, who has hosted the IPL Player Auctions since the inaugural season in 2008. This is the first IPL auction wherein the bidding will be done in Indian rupees.

 Chennai retain pacer Mohit for 2 crore:  The young pacer Mohit Sharma is next  for CSK last season. He starts with a opening bid for Rs. 1 crore.
Chennai as expected as very keen on the pace bowler and Delhi are not giving up either.
The bid goes up to 2 crore before Delhi pull out of the race.

Rajasthan Royals mentor Rahul Dravid makes the opening bid before Delhi come into the picture triggering a frenzy of quick bids to take it past 2 cr.
Delhi raise it to 2.2 crore as Rajasthan pull out. But maybe they made a last minute bid as auctioneer Madlee claims he didn’t see their bid. After some deliberation, they resume the bidding as it crosses the 4 cr mark.
Rajasthan back out finally it seems with Delhi’s bid at 4.25 crore.

Australian bowling great Brett Lee has a base price of Rs. 2 crore and as expected there are no bids for him. UNSOLD.
  Christian, Bopara remain unsold, Sunrisers buy Henriques:   Australian Dan Christian with a base price of 1 crore finds no buyers and England’s Ravi Bopara with the same base price meets the same fate as both go UNSOLD.
England all-rounder Luke Wright also remains UNSOLD.
Australian Moises Henriques is bought at his base price of Rs. 1 crore by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
  Rajasthan bag Nayar for 1 crore:  Mumbai’s Abhishek Nayar starts with a base price of 30 lakh. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals trigger a bidding war which takes the price to Rs. 1 crore.

  The big name is out finally — New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson, the batsman with the fastest century in ODIs.
His base price is a modest 1 cr as Rajasthan Royals open the bidding war. Mumbai enter the fray as Rajasthan back out at 1.5 cr.
But Delhi are now in the running too as the bid crosses 2 crore mark and then in a few second it goes past the 4 crore mark.
Sunrisers enter the fray with 4.25 cr bid but Mumbai go better at 4.5 crore.

 Delhi buy Shukla for 1.5 crore:  Former India all-rounder Laxmi Ratan Shukla starts with a base price of 50 lakh.
Delhi and Kolkata interested in the veteran all-rounder as the bid goes up to the 1 crore mark. 
Finally, Delhi bag him for three times his starting price at 1.5 crore.

  Maxwell sold to Kings XI Punjab for 6 crore:  Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell with a base price of Rs. 1 crore is up next. If you remember, he was purchased by Mumbai Indians last time for a million dollars.
Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians are locked in a keen tussle to get Maxwell and the bid reaches 2 crore mark and is still going strong.
Delhi are not holding back as the bid crosses the 4 cr mark and Mumbai are giving back in equal measure.
Kings XI Punjab have entered the fray with a 5 cr bid catching Mumbai by surprise, who up it to 5.5 cr before Punjab make it 6 cr and Mumbai have backed out.

 Russell remains unsold:  Next is the second group of all-rounders which will feature the big hitting Kiwi Corey Anderson, Glenn Maxwell among others.
The first player out is Andre Russell of West Indies with a base price of Rs. 50 lakh but he remains UNSOLD.

 Sunrisers buy Zimbabwe keeper Taylor:  Surprisingly, Zimbabwe’s Brendan Taylor is sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for his base price of Rs. 30 lakh.
But Johnson Charles of West Indies with the same base price remains UNSOLD.
New Zealand wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi with a base price of Rs. 30 lakh goes unsold,
 Next set is the second group of wicketkeeper-batsmen.
There seems to be interest in the players in this group as the following players go unsold,

 West Indies all-rounder Marlon Samuels, who starts with a base price of Rs. 2 crore also goes UNSOLD. His team mate Lendl Simmons with a base price of Rs. 50 also finds no takers.
Former Chennai Super Kings Subramaniam Badrinath, who had a base price of Rs. 1 crore, finds no takers and isUNSOLD.
England batsman Ian Bell with the same base price also goes UNSOLD.
Tamim Iqbal of Bangladesh with a base price of Rs. 50 lakhs remains UNSOLD and same is the case for New Zealand opener Martin Guptill (base price Rs. 50 lakh).
Tiwary bought by Delhi for 70 lakh:  Young batsman Saurabh Tiwary is up for grabs now as he starts with a base price of Rs. 50 lakh.
Delhi Daredevils make the opening bid before Kolkata Knight Riders enter the fray.
But it is Delhi Daredevils, who bag Tiwary for 70 lakh.
  Bravo, Hales remain unsold:  West Indies batsman Darren Bravo with a base price of Rs. 50 lakh goes UNSOLD. He could be up for grabs on Day 2 depending on whether any franchise shows interest in buying him.
England’s Alex Hales has a base price of Rs. 2 crore but none of the franchise want to avail his services so he goesUNSOLD.
  Maddinson sold to RCB for 50 lakh:  So the second session of the IPL Auction commences with the second set of the specialist batsmen going under the hammer.
Australia’s Cameron White is the first batsman up for sale with a base price of Rs. 1.5 crore. He remains UNSOLD.
His compatriot Nic Maddinson, who had a base price of Rs. 50 lakh, was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore for the same price.

So, the IPL Auction has brought two former India coaches face to face in the form ofJohn Wright and Gary Kirsten.While Wright successfully coached Mumbai Indians to the IPL title last year, Kirsten has taken over the Delhi Daredevils from the coming season onwards.
Kirsten had a successful run as the India coach, winning the World Cup in 2011 while also guiding the team to the No. 1 in Test rankings.

13:29  The Auction will resume at 2pm with the franchises looking to further bolster their sides with a few more purchases. Let us check as to how much funds each of the teams have in their auction kitty.
  Huge pay cut for the Pathan brothers:  A huge pay cut for the Pathan brothers, this time around.
If you remember, in the last auction, Yusuf and Irfan were sold for $ 2.1m and $1.9m respectively. 
Today, they managed only 3.25cr and 2.4cr.
One of the reasons that can be attributed to their huge pay cut could be their ouster from the Indian team. While Irfan has struggled with injuries and has recently returned to domestic cricket, Yusuf has been out of the team due to poor form for quite a while now!
  RCB buy Yuvraj for 14 crore, Karthik gets 12.5 cr:  So that is the end of the first session as we break for lunch. The Auction will resume at 2pm with the second set of specialist batsmen up for grabs.
Yuvraj Singh has bagged the highest price of the 2014 IPL Auction with a huge price tag of Rs. 14 crore which Royal Challengers Bangalore paid for him. 
Dinesh Karthik was a surprise pick at 12.5 cr when he was bought by Delhi Daredevils, who also snapped up Kevin Pietersen for 9 cr.
Mitchell Johnson was also another high profile player to get a good price with Kings XI Punjab bagging him for 6.5 cr.
Jacques Kallis was retained by Kolkata Knight Riders using the Right to Match option for 5.5 cr and Sunrisers Hyderabad got David Warner for the same price.
Robin Uthappa (KKR) and Mitchell Starc (RCB) were the other two players who went for the 5 crore mark.

Sri Lanka spin great Muttiah Muralitharan is the last player of the session and he starts with a base price of Rs. 1 crore.
And surprise, surprise there are no takes for him before RCB make a late bid for the veteran.

  Murali Kartik remains unsold:   Former left-arm spinner Murali Kartik is up for sale now and he starts with a base price of Rs. 1 crore.
But surprisingly, no bids for the veteran spinner as he goes UNSOLD.
And so does Nathan McCullum of New Zealand who started with the same base price.
  Mendis goes unsold:  Sri Lanka’s Ajantha Mendis is the next spin bowler and he starts with a base price of Rs. 50 lakh. But he goes UNSOLD like many of the Sri Lankans before him today.

  Mumbai Indians retain Ojha for 3.25 crore:  India’s Test spinner Pragyan Ojha will be up for sale now and he starts with a base price of Rs. 2 crore.
It’s Delhi vs Mumbai for the left-arm spinner.
Delhi are not relenting this time as they make a successful bid of Rs.3.25 cr for Ojha.
But Mumbai have requested time to see if they want to exercise the Right to Match option.

KKR join the fray but Delhi will not hold back as the price goes up to 2 crore and they are still going for it.
Very soon it is 3 crore but the intense bidding war continues before Delhi make it 4 cr.
KKR raise it to 4.25 crore before Delhi give up.
Kings XI have the option of RTM but they will not use it.

Morne Morkel goes to KKR for 2.8 crore:  The last fast bowler up for grabs is South African Morne Morkel and he starts with a base price of Rs. 1.5 crore.
Rajasthan Royals make the opening bid and Mumbai Indians come into the fray as the bid goes up to 2.2cr before Mumbai back out.
Kolkata make a late entry with a 2.4 cr bid but Rajasthan after some deliberation raise it to 2.6 cr but KKR extend it further.
Delhi are not using the RTM offer as Morkel goes to KKR.

Chennai are finally back in the action with the first bid but Kolkata are up for the challenge as the price goes up to Rs. 2 crore.
Sunrisers also show their interest with a bid of 2.4 cr but KKR raise it to 2.6 crore to get the player.
Delhi are offered the Right to Match card but refuse the offer.

  India’s current fast bowling sensation Mohammed Shami is next up for grabs at the base price of Rs. 1 crore.
His price doubles up instantly as Delhi and Kolkata trigger an intense bidding war. And soon it is touching 3 crore in favour of KKR but Delhi not holding back either.
And Kings XI Punjab also come into the picture but Delhi get the pacer for 4.25 crore.

 Shakib Al Hasan sold to KKR for 2.8 crore:  The last in the all-rounder list is Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan with a base price of Rs. 1 crore.
Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders are keen to get the all-rounder as the bid doubles to 2 crore in a matter of few seconds.
Kolkata stretch it to 2.8 crore as Delhi back out.

  Irfan Pathan sold to Sunrisers for 2.4 crore:  The next all-rounder up for sale is Irfan Pathan, who has made a recovery from injury lately. He starts with a base price of Rs. 1.5 crore.
Rajasthan Royals open the bidding at the base price before Sunrisers Hyderabad enter the fray and soon the price zooms to 2.4cr in favour of the latter. Delhi Daredevils decide not to use the RTM.

  David Hussey goes unsold:  Australia’s David Hussey is next up, starting with a base price of Rs. 1 crore.
But unlike his old brother Mike, David Hussey has gone unsold.
And Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews also suffers the same fate.
 Albie Morkel sold to RCB for 2.4 crore:  South Africa’s veteran all-rounder Albie Morkel comes in to the fray now starting with a base price of Rs. 1.50 crore.
Delhi Daredevils have shown initial interest before Royal Challengers Bangalore challenge their bid as the price goes up to 2.40 crore in favour of the latter.

  Kings XI Punjab buy Perera for 1.60 crore:  Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera starts with a base price of Rs. 50 lakh.

  Next is  Yusuf Pathan, who proved to be a huge hit at Rajasthan Royals before his below-par run at Kolkata Knight Riders.
He starts with a base price of Rs 2 crore as Sunrisers make the opening bid and Mumbai Indians also jump into the fray.
Not much interest being shown in Yusuf Pathan, who previously commanded such huge price tags in the earlier auctions.
Sunrisers Hyderabad are the latter bidders as the prices goes up to 3.25 cr in favour of Kings XI Punjab before KKR use the RTM option.
 Kolkata Knight Riders retain Yusuf Pathan using RTM for 3.25 crore.
 Steve Smith sold to Rajasthan Royals for 4 crore:  After the wicketkeepers, we will have the all-rounders up for grabs now.
Australian Steve Smith starts with a base price of Rs 2 crore. Kolkata Knight Riders open the bidding at the base price before Rajasthan Royals enter the fray as it soon zooms to 3.25 cr for KKR before the Royals take it up to 4 crore which is enough.

  Wade, Kieswetter goes unsold at IPL Auction:   Australia’s limited overs specialist wicketkeeper Matthew Wade is the next player up for sale and he starts with a base price of Rs. 1 crore.
But none of the teams are interested in him and he goes unsold.
And England’s Crag Kieswetter meets the same fate after starting with a base price of Rs 1.5 crore.
Sri Lankan Kusal Janith Perera also goes unsold with a base price of Rs 50 lakhs.

11:27  Parthiv Patel sold to RCB for 1.40 crore:  The next wicketkeeper who comes up for sale is Parthiv Patel and he starts with a base price of Rs 1 crore.

Kings XI Punjab enter the fray with 2.20 crore and they manage to get him for that price.

Kings XI Punjab jump into the picture as the bid goes to 3.75 cr before Chennai Super Kings make a late entry with 4 cr bid.
The bid goes up to 4.5 crore with Chennai Super Kings making the highest bid.

 Manoj Tiwary sold to Delhi Daredevils for 2.8 crore:  Former India batsman Manoj Tiwary who has recently recovered from his injury comes into the fray now. His base price is Rs. 2 crore.
Delhi Daredevils make the opening bid at the base price and there are no more bids for him.
Sunrisers come into the fray at 2.2 before Delhi raise it further to 2.8 crore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad enter the fray as the bid zooms to 4 cr in no time as Delhi are not willing to hold back.
Sunrisers raise the bid to 4 crore before Delhi back out.

Ross Taylor goes unsold:  So we will have the third round, which will feature the Specialist Batsmen.
New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor is the first player up for sale from this round. He starts with a base price of Rs. 2 crore. Surprisingly, he goes unsold.

 Zaheer Khan sold to Mumbai Indians for 2.6 crore:  Veteran fast bowler Zaheer Khan is the last player in the second round and he starts with a base price of 1 crore.
A slow start before Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad enter into a bidding war with the price going up to 2.6 crore.
Mumbai make the highest bid at 2.6 crore as Sunrisers back out and Royal Challengers Bangalore will not match the amount.

Delhi make the highest bid at 4.25 cr before Royal Challengers Bangalore come into the picture at 4.5cr  but Delhi raise it further to 4.75 cr.
 Delhi Daredevils make the highest bid for Amit Mishra for 4.75 crore but Sunrisers Hyderabad use the Right to Match card to retain the leg spinner.
  Mumbai Indians buy Michael Hussey for 5 crore:  Australian veteran batsman Michael Hussey is the next player with a base price of Rs 2 crore.
And it is Delhi again, who start the bidding before Mumbai enter the picture taking the bid in a matter of few minutes to 4 crore.
And Mumbai Indians in pole position with a bid of Rs. 5 crore as Delhi back out of the race.

Mumbai Indians look keen to get his services after missing out on Dinesh Karthik but Chennai Super Kings are equally determined with a bid of 3.25 crore.
Kolkata Knight Riders will not match the bid which means he goes to CSK.

  RCB buy Yuvraj for 14 crore: Dinesh Karthik is the next player up for sale and he starts with a base price of Rs. 2 crore.
Delhi Daredevils, who have bid for almost every player up to this point, have started the bid but Sunrisers Hyderabad are not giving up. 
It’s a bid a second as it goes up to Rs. 10 crore in no time with Delhi but Sunrisers raise it to 10.50 crore.
Kolkata Knight Riders have made a late entry into the fray but Delhi still in the hunt with 12.5 crore. And he is sold as Mumbai Indians opt not to retain the player.
Delhi Daredevils have made the second highest purchase of the auction as they get Dinesh Karthik for 12.5 crore.
  Chennai retain Faf du Plessis using RTM for 4.75 crore:  South African batsman Faf du Plessis is the next player on the cards with a base price of 1.5 crore.
Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils take the bid to 4 crore within no time with both not holding back.
Delhi up the bid to 4.75 cr as Mumbai opt out.
Faf du Plessis sold to Delhi Daredevils for 4.75 crore but Chennai Super Kings get him back using the right to match option.

Sunrisers Hyderabad retain Sammy for 3.5 crore:  West Indies all-rounder Darren Sammy is the second player for sale now with a base price of Rs. 1 crore.
Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils in a bidding frenzy as the bid sprints past the 2 crore mark.
Royal Challengers Bangalore jump into the picture with 2.4 cr but Delhi not holding back taking the bid up to 3.5 crore.
Sunrisers Hyderabad retain Sammy using the right to match card at 3.5 crore matching the highest bid made by Delhi Daredevils.
  Kings XI Punjab buy Bailey for 3.25 crore:  So, Madlee gets the second round underway as Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor picks up the first player ball from the bag. 
The first player up for grabs is George Bailey and he starts with a base price of Rs. 2 crore.
Kings XI Punjab make the opening bid at the base price and Delhi Daredevils enter the fray as the price goes up to 3.25 crore.
 Kings XI Punjab have successfully bought George Bailey for 3.25 cr.
 Vijay Mallya seems delighted at getting Yuvraj Singh, who further boosts the explosive batting line-up featuring Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and captain Virat Kohli.
“We now have to fix our bowling and fortunately there a lot of options,” Mallya said.
  The second round will comprise of another set of marquee players will feature George Bailey, Faf du Plessis, Michael Hussey, Dinesh Karthik, Zaheer Khan, Brendon McCullum, Amit Mishra and Darren Sammy.

  Yuvraj gets the highest price in Round 1:   Yuvraj Singh commanded the highest price in the opening round of the IPL Auction as Royal Challengers Bangalore paid a whopping Rs. 14 crore for him.
But his former India team mate Virender Sehwag went for 3.20 crore to Kings XI Punjab as Delhi Daredevils opted not to retain him.
The second highest bid went to Kevin Pietersen who was retained by Delhi Daredevils using the RTM option after Sunrisers Hyderabad had made the highest bid of Rs. 9 crore.
Delhi Daredevils also bought India Test opener Murali Vijay for Rs. 5 crore but decided not to retain David Warner, who was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 5.5 crore.
Kings XI Punjab made a big bid of 6.5 crore for Australia’s Ashes bowling hero Mitchell Johnson as Mumbai opted not to exercise the RTM option.
Kolkata Knight Riders used the right to match option to get back Jacques Kallis for 5.5 crore.
Sri Lankan batting icon Mahela Jayawardene surprisingly went unsold.
Kings XI Punjab buy Johnson for 6.5 crore:   Australia’s Ashes hero Mitchell Johnson is the final player in the first round of the Auction.
It triggers an intense bidding war right from the start between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab and in no time the bid is up to 6.5 crore.
Chennai back out as Punjab get Johnson for 6.5 crore.
Mumbai Indians have ruled out the Right to Match option as Kings XI Punjab get Mitchell Johnson.
 Sunrisers Hyderabad buy Warner for 5.5 crore:  Australian dashing batsman David Warner is up for grabs now, starting with a base price of 1.5 crore.
Mumbai Indians with the opening bid before Sunrisers Hyderabad jump into the picture.
The amount goes up to Rs. 3 crore and keeps on climbing to 4 crore within no time.
Hyderabad in no mood to relent while Mumbai seem determined to get the Australian opener as they up the bid to Rs. 5 crore before SH go up to 5.5 cr.
So the player is sold to Sunrisers for 5.5 crore as Delhi opt not to retain Warner.

 Kings XI Punjab buy Sehwag for 3.20 crore:  Former India batting great Virender Sehwag comes into the picture now.

There are no bids initially before Punjab opening the bidding at 2.20 crore and Mumbai Indians jump into the picture with 2.60 before Punjab up it to 2.80 and Mumbai raise it to 3 crore.
Punjab not giving up as they raise it to 3.20 cr and Mumbai have backed out.
Surprisingly, Delhi have opted not to retain Sehwag using the Right to Match option.
  Kolkata retain Kallis for 5.5 crore:   South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis comes into the bidding now.
His base price is Rs. 2 crore.
Chennai make the opening bid as Delhi Daredevils enter the picture after CSK bid Rs. 2.80 crore.
KKR make a fresh bid of Rs. 3 crore triggering another bidding war with CSK, who up the bid to 5.5 crore and they are no more bids.
But Kolkata Knight Riders have the option to Right to match which they use to retain Kallis.
  RCB buy Yuvraj for 14 crore:   Yuvraj Singh in the fray now.

For the first time we have Royal Challengers Bangalore and it is turning out to be a thrilling with bids raining every second.
RCB have upped the ante to Rs. 10 crore for Yuvraj Singh. Kings XI Punjab have opted out it seems.
Just when it looked that RCB had grabbed the winning bid, Kolkata Knight Riders have jumped into the fray. 
IPL Auctioneer Madlee initially says he didn’t see their bid but he has accepted their take.
The bid now goes up to Rs. 14 crore still in favour of RCB.
 Delhi Daredevils retain Pietersen:  – Kevin Pietersen.
He starts with a base price of Rs. 2 crore and it is raining bids between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab.
Punjab going out all as it goes up to 4.20 cr but Sunrisers enter the fray at 5 cr.
Chennai and Sunrisers in a keen tussle as the bid goes up to 8 crore.
Sunrisers have bought Pietersen for 9 crore.
Meanwhile, Delhi Darevils have exercised their Right to Match option and got Pietersen in their team for Rs. 9 crore.
 Jayawardene goes unsold:  Sri Lankan batting ace Mahela Jayawardene is the second player up for grabs. But surprisingly, no bids for him and he goes in to the unsold Pool.
  Murali Vijay is the first player sold at 2014 IPL Auction:   Murali Vijay is the first player to go under the hammer. His base price is Rs. 2 crore and as expected Chennai Super Kings are the first to bid for him.
Delhi Daredevils with 2.20 followed by CSK for 2.40 and Mumbai up it to 2.80.
Delhi back in the race as they raise it to Rs. 3 crore. 
Sunrisers Hyderabad make a fresh bid of 3.20 cr but Delhi are not giving up as the bid goes up to 5 cr in their favour.
And Delhi have successfully bought the first player at the 2014 IPL Auction, grabbing Murali Vijay for 5 crore.
IPL Auction will be conducted in Indian rupees:  IPL CEO Sundar Raman confirms that the Players Auction will be conducted in Indian Rupees.
Auctioneer Richard Madley has come on the stage and he will get the auction underway.
  2014 IPL Auction set to kick-off:   We are all set for the 2014 IPL Auction, which will get underway in a few minutes. Rahul Dravid is spotted in the Rajasthan Royals camp, while Juhi Chawla smiles away with her Kolkata Knight Riders gang.
Former India coach Gary Kirsten will be with Delhi Daredevils, who have not retained any players ahead of the auction. Anil Kumble will be part of the Mumbai Indians camp.
Also spotted at the Auction Hall in ITC Gardenia Hall in Bangalore is Bollywood superstar Ranbir Khan but he is not part of any team but merely there courtesy of the sponsors Pepsi India.

The teams will also have the ‘Right to match’ (RTM) option which will can be used as follows 
As the bidding for any player is complete and the auctioneer is satisfied that no more bids will be forthcoming, the auctioneer will bring down the hammer, declare the player “sold” and then ask his previous franchise (in 2013) if it wishes to exercise it’s RTM option. If the franchise chooses to exercise the RTM option, then they can buy the player for the amount of the highest bid made in the Player Auction
- No further bidding by any other franchises is possible once the RTM option is exercised.
- The franchises may take no more than four capped Indian players via a combination of retention prior to the auction and ‘Right to match’
