“Success, however, will not come easy in the global arena. As professionals you will need deep domain knowledge, problem solving skills and exceptional communication skills,” said Mohandas Pai, addressing over 300 PGDM graduating students at Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) here Saturday evening.
Mohandas Pai was confident that India’s fiscal structure was capable of supporting a 6 to 8 per cent GDP growth, translating into a five-fold GDP increase to $10-trillion by 2035 from the current $2-trillion.
The developed countries accounting for $35 trillion of the $75 trillion world economy, will grow at 1-2 per cent, during the period, due to an ageing population. The world is poised to see the emergence of the East by 2035, led by India and China, backed by a healthy growth rate, added Pai.
“Despite recording high GDP growth, India lacks governance,” said Pai who served as a Director on the board of IT bellwether Infosys till 2011. “It’s your chance to make an informed choice, in the ensuing elections, to bring about the transformation that India needs.”
“India’s biggest asset is the fact that it has 400 million people under 30 years, while most developed countries have an ageing population,” added Mohandas Pai, chairman, Manipal Global Education Services.
Post Graduate Diploma in Management was awarded to 357 BIMTECH students, including those with specialization in International Business (52), Insurance (32), Retail (30), and Sustainable Development (16) stream.
Speaking on the occasion Dr H Chaturvedi, Director BIMTECH said, “Over 80 companies have hired PGDM students in the ongoing placement season.”
Pre-empting Mohandas Pai’s suggestion to prepare global citizens armed with cultural sensitivity and flexibility to work in any part of the world Dr Chaturvedi said, “Forty two BIMTECH students pursued part of their studies in Europe, America and Asia under academic exchange program. Our 26-year old management institute opened its classrooms to 34 students from European universities for a semester last year.”
Chairperson of the board of governors, BIMTECH, Ms Jayashree Mohta said that the institute is proud to have prepared 4800 management professionals at the Greater Noida campus. BIMTECH’s campus at Bhubaneswar has been offering graduate and post graduate programs in management since 2013.
After awarding 9 of the 11 gold medals (and awards) to women, Mr Pai commented that the trend is a forerunner of the ascendancy of women in corporate leadership in the near future.
The outgoing batch was administered the oath of ethics, for their journey in the corporate world and life.
