PWL Season 1 defending champion Odunayo Adekuoroye looking forward to a re-match with Sofia Mattsson

New Delhi, November 14 2016: Nigeria’s freestyle wrestler Odunayo Adekuoroye who enthralled the Indian audience in the inaugural season of Pro Wrestling League is looking forward to Pro Wrestling League – season two which is set to begin from December 15, 2016.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist who was part of Revanta Mumbai Garuda team in PWL-1 said she has been undergoing an intense training of 6 hours a day towards the preparation for the second season of Pro Wrestling League. “I am working on my speed and strength and would expect myself to be in top shape for the second season of the league,” said Odunayo.

At the 2016 Rio Olympics Nigeria’s medal hopes were hinged on Odunayo. But Sofia Mattsson defeated her in the first match. Notwithstanding that loss, Odunayo is excited about a possible re-match with her 2016 Olympic opponent and confident of winning the bout this time. “I am looking forward to a bout against Sofia. She is a very tough opponent to beat but I will make sure that I train harder and take this as a challenge. I hope that I  come out better on the mat this time around.”

Talking about her Indian counterparts, she said, “Babita Kumari would be the one to watch out for as her performances have been very consistent. But without taking away anything from anyone, in Pro Wrestling League, I can’t underestimate anyone in my weight categories because I need to beat them all to ensure my team wins again.”

Last season, Odunayo’s team won the title and she is focussing all her energies towards getting better for the second edition after recently visiting Germany for a training stint. “The inaugural season of PWL was obviously a memorable one for me and I learned several things. I am gearing up for the second season to face new challenges.”
