India to support Vietnam for training of English Teachers The Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam has expressed keenness to source teachers from India to teach English as well a to train Vietnam teachers in English and the number indicated was around 20,000 English teachers over the next few years. In this regard, Secretary (School Education) suggested that CBSE has a strong academic and training wing with a strong Sahodaya School Complexes network. CBSE can train English teachers for Vietnam using this network, the details of which will be worked out after more discussions, at the officer level, with the Vietnam side. Besides, EFL-U, Hyderabad acting Vice Chancellor,Prof R Amritavalli suggested that they can run special three months teachers’ training programme at EFLU, Hyderabad in two batches of 50 teachers yearly over a period of next three years to train Master-Trainers in English for the Vietnamese. In this manner, 300 master trainers in English will be trained in EFLU, Hyderabad over a period of 3 years. EFLU has also proposed to give proficiency training in English by deputing 2-3 experts to Vietnam. The Vietnam side also desired support from India in curriculum development, for which also, India agreed to support them. This was discussed in a meeting co-chaired by Shri Kapil Sibal, Union Minister of Human Resource Development, and Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, here today.

University of Delhi and JNU have agreed to cooperate with Vietnam Academies and two National universities. This cooperation would include the offering of Indian studies in Vietnam and Vietnam studies in India. While observing the keen interest Vietnam has shown in the social sciences, two fellowships for the duration for 2-3 months at the IIAS, Shimla will be instituted for the Vietnamese. Shri Kapil Sibal also directed that a Joint Working Group under the existing Education Exchange Programme with Vietnam may be formed. The JWG will meet in the next 4 weeks and chalk out a programme of cooperation between both the countries in the next 3 months.
