Parkash Singh Badal to form government In Punjab,

Punjab, Governor, Shivraj V. Patil invited joint leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) alliance legislature group Parkash Singh Badal to form government in the state. Earlier, Mr. Badal was elected joint leader of alliance in a meeting of coalition legislatures in Chandigarh. 
 
 Mr. Badal accompanied by Shiromani Akali Dal President and MLA, Sukhbir Singh Badal, President of Punjab BJP Unit and MLA, Ashwani Kumar Sharma and leader of BJP legislature group in Assembly, Bhagat Chuni Lal met Governor and handed over the copy of resolution electing Mr. Badal as leader of SAD-BJP Legislative Party. New government under the leadership of Mr. Badal will take oath on Wednesday in Mohali near Chandigarh.

Save Dissent to Save Democracy   THE rising instances of physical violence and threats against political opponents and the inability to accept dissent must raise huge concerns amongst all of us who see democracy as perhaps the really stellar achievement since Independence. AAP’s attack on BJP headquarters and acts of arson committed under the very noses of their elite leadership; the attacks on Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in Gujarat in the last two days; the recent manhandling of the caretaker of journalist Siddharth Varadarajan’s house by some garden variety thugs; and the violence and threats meted out regularly to their political opponents by political parties is surely deplorable and condemnable.
