Israeli airstrikes in Gaza kill 15

Israel surged its launch airstrikes in the Gaza Strip for the second consecutive day on Saturday, killing 15 people. In retaliation Palestinians have fired more than 100 rockets into Israeli territory over the past 2 days, wounding 15 people.Israel carried out an airstrike on a car in Gaza on Friday, which killed the top commander of the militant coalition known as the Popular Resistance Committees. Israel says the commander had plotted a terrorist attack.

The militant group is taking a more hard-line stance against Israel than the Islamic fundamentalist organization Hamas, which effectively controls Gaza.The militant coalition is promising to continue revenge attacks against Israel for the killing of its leader. It is feared that there will be a further escalation of violence as the Israeli military pledged to continue strikes against Palestinian militants who want to attack Israel.

Save Dissent to Save Democracy   THE rising instances of physical violence and threats against political opponents and the inability to accept dissent must raise huge concerns amongst all of us who see democracy as perhaps the really stellar achievement since Independence.
