retains her LET card with a spectacular nine under
New Delhi, December 18, 2012:Sharmila Nicollet became the only Indian
to qualify for the Ladies European Tour 2013. She put up an impressive
performance to finish at tied 17th with a score of 9 under at the LET
Q School in Marrakech, Morocco. This is the second successive year that she has
qualified for the LET after a strong performance at the qualifying school this
year. She made a marked improvement finishing 17th this year from
last year’s 30th position.Sharmila has had an average season in 2012, where she made the cut only thrice. However, she is confident of turning the table in the coming season.
Smriti Mehra, who has had seven starts on the LET will receive exemption to 3 LET select events in 2013 for being the top player on Hero Order of Merit Prize Money for 2012. Smriti has had seven starts on the LET and made the cut in four.
Back home at the Hero Women’s Professional golf tour Smriti Mehra became player of the year being the top player on Hero Order of Merit Prize Money for 2012. Vani Kapoor emerged as the Rookie of the year.Smriti Mehra was declared “Birdie Queen” for 2012 for putting the maximum number of birdies.
The Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2012 was a big success as top players put up consistent performances to make the tour even more competitive. Vani Kapoor’s stellar performance in the tour signals the coming of young players into the fray, furthering reiterating the growth of women’s golf in India. Aditi Ashok, who became the only Indian, to finish at the top after the first round at the Hero Women’s Indian Open 2012 reflects the quality of golf being played in the country. Nalini Singh Siwach’s finish in the recently concluded Hero Women’ Indian Open 2012 as the number one Indian player has further reiterated the fight for supremacy in the domestic tour.
“The season 2013 augurs well for the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour as each of the top 4 players have strengthened their mental game to pitch for a very challenging season ahead” , said Mrs. Champika Sayal, Secretary General, Women’s Golf Association of India.
Hero MotoCorp, the patron of women’s golf in India, has announced a further commitment for sponsorship of the Women’s Indian Open till 2015 and Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour for the same period.
The Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour’s 2013 season begins in January 2013 with a total prize purse of Rupees 90 lakhs from 14 legs to be played across various locations within the country.
