CAG audit nails Centre’s claim on LPG subsidy saving

Modi Government claimed to have saved Rs 21,672 crore, thanks to his “Direct Benefit Tranfer” and “GiveItUp (asking better off consumers to voluntarily give up theirs).
However, CAG Audit revealed that – Rs 20,000 crore of saving is due to “GLOBAL DIP IN CRUDE OIL PRICES”.
The saving from people voluntarily giving up LPG subsidy and direct bank transfers (DBT) adds up to less than Rs. 2,000 crore.

This has raised serious doubts on the credibility and accountability of the Modi Govt.
In the past as well, CAG has punctured Modi Government’s claims and held the Govt responsible for many financial irregularities. One such example is of Modi Govt giving undue favors to Reliance and Adani.
