Poland :EU actions on constitutional tribunal are ‘premature
European Commission’s actions on Wednesday with respect to the issue of Poland’s constitutional tribunal are premature and expose the Commission to a risk of losing its authority, the Polish foreign ministry said on Wednesday. The Commission urged Poland on Wednesday to apply over the next three months measures to protect the powers of the Constitutional Tribunal, stepping up pressure on Warsaw’s eurosceptic government.“With respect to the today’s decision of the European Commission we hereby say that the actions of the Commission prior to the coming into law of the law on the Constitutional Tribunal are decisively premature,” the ministry said.

T M Krishna, Bezwada Wilson win Ramon Magsaysay Award
Two Indians, Carnatic musician TM Krishna and human rights activist Bezwada Wilson have been conferred the Ramon Magsaysay Award for 2016. While the Chennai-born Carnatic vocalist Krishna has been awarded for ensuring social inclusiveness in culture, Karnataka born Wilson has been lauded for his efforts towards asserting the inalienable right to a life of human dignity.
The Magsaysay Award is an annual award, named after former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay, to honour greatness of spirit in selfless service to the peoples of Asia. AIR correspondent reports other winners are Conchita Carpio-Morales from Philippines, Dompet Dhuafa from Indonesia, Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers and Vientiane Rescue from Laos.
Bezwada Wilson is the national convenor of the Safai Karmachari Andolan. He has been named as an awardee for asserting the inalienable right to a life of human dignity. 50-year-old Wilson, born into family involved in manual scavenging in Kolar Gold Fields township in Karnataka, was the first in his family to pursue a higher education. He spent 32 years on his crusade to eradicate manual scavenging.
The other Indian awardee, 40 year old Carnatic musician Krishna has been hailed in the citation as showing that music can indeed be a deeply transformative force in personal lives. He was born in Chennai, and trained from the age of six in the Carnatic music under masters of the form. Though he earned a degree in economics, Krishna chose to be an artist and quickly rose to become a highly-admired concert performer.
Hillary Clinton wins Democratic nomination for president
Hillary Clinton has made history by clinching the Democratic White House nomination, becoming the first woman to lead a major party in the US Presidential race. Clinton, who has been Secretary of State, First Lady and Senator from New York, secured her nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia after a majority of the 4,764 party delegates formally backed her.
Her rival from the primaries, Bernie Sanders moved a resolution for her nomination when the roll call got to his home state of Vermont — sending out a vital message of unity for a party struck by deep divisions. Moments later, the Democratic delegates nominated Clinton as the party’s presidential candidate, setting up a high-stakes showdown with Republican Donald Trump.
Clinton’s nomination was proposed by Congresswoman Barbara A Mikulski, the first Democratic woman elected to the Senate, and the first woman to chair the powerful Senate Committee on Appropriations. After clinching the nomination, sixty-eight-year old Clinton tweeted one word: History. She will accept the nomination in a speech tomorrow. The US Presidential elections are scheduled to take place on 8th of November this year.
