Press Conference
Today, the human rights violations
against women has reached unacceptable level and the recent brutal gang rape of
23-year old girl from Delhi is an example of the kind of violence that young girls
and women are facing in different parts of the country and world- wide . At
least 1 in 3 women in the world is battered or a victim of abuse
during her life.
To end the Violence against Women, the One
Billion Rising Campaign was launched across South Asia. With the National Crime
Record Bureau (NCRB) 2011 indicating that the incidence of rape increased by
873 percent between 1953 and 2011 or at a rate three times faster than all
cognizable crimes put together, the Campaign was jointly launched by a
coalition of 25 organizations on 24 Nov 2012 at New Delhi.
