An invite you to a talk on Pakistan: The Emerging Political Economy Scenario by Mr Haroon Sharif, Advisor to the World Bank Office in Islamabad on South Asian Regional Cooperation on Wednesday, 1st   May 2013 at 3.00 p.m. at Conference Hall of the Centre.    
Brief Bio
Haroon Sharif works as Advisor to the World Bank on Regional Economic Cooperation in South Asia. He is based in Islamabad.
Prior to this, Haroon has been working for the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) for past ten years. In his last assignment as the Head of Economic Growth Group, he was managing £500mn portfolio focused on economic growth, financial sector development and job creation. He has also been leading the policy dialogue with major political parties, think tanks and private investors in the region. While working in Asia, USA, Europe and the Pacific, he brings over twenty years of policy level experience in the areas of economic growth, financial sector development, institutional reforms and private investments.  Haroon also worked as the Executive Director of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and as the CEO of a financial institution.
Haroon served as a member of the Executive Board of the Washington based Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) and the Chair of the General Council of the Financial Sector Reforms and Strengthening (FIRST) initiative housed at the World Bank. As a member of various high level task forces, he has been providing advice on development policies to the highest political offices in the UK, Middle East and Pakistan, G-20 Task Force on Financial Inclusion, Islamic Development Bank, Planning Commission of Pakistan and the State Bank of Pakistan.
Haroon holds postgraduate qualifications in international business, Economics and International Development from the University of Hawaii and London School of Economics and Political Science. He has lectured and published articles at both local and international forums, and has won several prestigious fellowships and awards. He is frequently invited as an economic policy commentator on international and local TV channels. In the recent years, his political economy insights and scenarios for economic growth in Pakistan caught particular attention of the international development agencies and think tanks.
