Aung San Suu Kyi to visit Britain from June 18th, and make a
speech before members of both houses of parliament. This is her first
trip abroad in 24 years.Britain announced on Saturday that Aung San Suu Kyi, who leads Myanmar's
main opposition National League for Democracy, will visit for about a
week as the guest of Prime Minister David Cameron.
Her scheduled speech before both houses of parliament shows the importance Britain places on the pro-democracy leader. US President Barack Obama and former South African President Nelson Mandela are among the few who were given the same opportunity.
Norway's Foreign Ministry says Aung San Suu Kyi will also visit the country during her trip.
Oslo City Hall will be on her agenda, where Nobel Peace Prize ceremonies are held every year. Aung San Suu Kyi won the prize in 1991 but could not attend the award ceremony because she was under house arrest at the time.
