AirAsia wins sixth TTG ‘Best Asian Low-Cost Carrier’ award!
SEPANG, 8 OCTOBER 2012 – AirAsia was again hailed as the ‘Best Asian Low-Cost Carrier’ award winner by TTG, Asia-Pacific’s leading travel news publisher, at the 23rd Annual TTG Travel Awards in Bangkok recently.
The airline retained its top spot for the sixth time, with the preceding accolade received in 2011.
According to TTG, the event was attended by a total of 700 members of the Asia-Pacific travel trade and garnered a total of 60,000 valid votes—compared to 49,000 votes last year and a 20 percent increase—from June to August for its voted titles.
AirAsia was ultimately handed the crown in the Best Asian Low-Cost Carrier category, after the majority validated that the airline’s popularity among travel trade insiders and the travelling public.
AirAsia Thailand Director of Business Development, M.L. Bovornovadep Devakula, represented AirAsia Group to receive the award.
AirAsia Group CEO, Tony Fernandes said, “A great achievement for us to come up tops in the Best Asian Low-Cost Carrier category. It reflects our commitment to excellence and dedication in providing the best to our guests. To be recognized by an industry insider such as TTG is an honour for us, more motivation to strive even harder in delivering unparalled products and services. An award for our achievement is amazing, but we must not be complacent but instead remain focused in our quest to provide amazing low fares, superior network and exceptional service.”
This is not the first time AirAsia has been awarded with the Best Asian Low-Cost Carrier title from TTG. The airline was voted winner of the category in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. In 2009, Tony Fernandes was named ‘Travel Personality of the Year’ by the editorial board of TTG.
TTG Asia Media Managing Director, Darren Ng said, “It’s heartening to see our industry colleagues innovate and reinvent their products to stay relevant and in demand. The fact that so many of our winners can return to reclaim their titles is testament to their constant drive for improvement, amidst so many other up-and-coming competitors.”
This award from TTG follows other significant accolades that the airline has received in 2012. On 5 July this year, Aviation Week--highly influential aviation industry magazine in the United States--announced AirAsia as the winner in the magazine's Top-Performing Airlines 2012 report, the leading annual rankings and competitive analysis for the global airline industry.
The airline defeated other established and once-renowned airlines and even Europe's largest low cost carrier. AirAsia was also ranked highest in the US $250 million-$2 billion annual revenue category.

A week later on 13 July, the world’s air travellers--19 million of them—gave their verdict and AirAsia was once again Skytrax’s World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the fourth consecutive year!

The Skytrax World Airline Survey is an annual global survey conducted by respected London-based aviation consultants Skytrax, and AirAsia came out tops in the independent survey that measures airlines’ product and service standards.

AirAsia is a household name which has flown over 150 million guests since it was established ten years ago with a mission to democratize air travel in the region and has been operationally profitable from day one of its launch as a low-cost carrier. The airline also has affiliates in Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Japan, apart from Malaysia servicing 80 destinations across 20 countries
  2. Gleeson aims to be hit right note again at Hero Indian Open
Bengaluru, October 7: The music-loving David Gleeson of Australia is hoping to turn the corner with a successful title defence at the US$1.25 million Hero Indian Open golf from October 18 to 21.
Gleeson struggled with a stomach infection late last year which resulted in an unusual string of 10 missed cuts starting from November and into the 2012 Asian Tour season.
The stomach infection caused the Australian to lose considerable amount of weight which eventually took its toll on his golf game.
“My form fell off completely because I had a stomach infection which I couldn’t get rid off for five months. It was a shame because I was playing so well. I got so weak that I had to change my driver to try and get the ball going,” said the three-time Asian Tour winner.
“But I’ve regained my health now and my game is slowly coming back and I’m getting the distances I want. That’s the part of getting older and trying to be healthier and sustaining a Tour life,” added Gleeson.
The Hero Indian Open will move to the Karnataka Golf Association in Bengaluru for the first time in the tournament’s illustrious history and Gleeson is looking forward to the new challenge.
“Whenever you go back to a tournament which you’ve won before, there’s always a good vibe and feeling. I heard the golf course is good and I’m going to a new city and that’s always good fun,” he said.
Gleeson, who is also known for his musical talent, romped to a three-shot victory over local hope Chiragh Kumar last year and is determined to find his winning groove again.
“It is always great to have the ball in your control. I was in a good frame of mind that week and the ball went reasonably where I wanted it to go. It was one of those weeks where a lot of things were going my way,” he smiled.
“It is always more motivation when you defend a title. I don’t think there’s any more pressure than we give ourselves any other week. Possibly there will be more attention given to me compared to other weeks but that’s a good thing,” added the 34-year-old.
Anirban Lahiri, who hails from Bengaluru, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Himmat Rai, S.S.P. Chowrasia and Jyoti Randhawa, all Asian Tour winners, will lead the local challenge at the Hero Indian Open.

  7. President Hugo Chávez has retained power in Venezuela, after defeating opponent Henrique Capriles, by a comfortable victory of 900,000 votes.
Chávez, the longest serving president in Latin America, has been re-elected for the third time. His new term will be from 2013 to 2019. He was first elected to power in 1998.
President Hugo Chavez won re-election Sunday, defeating challenger Henrique Capriles and gaining six more years to cement his legacy and press ahead with his crusade for socialism in Venezuela.
With about 90 percent of votes counted, Chavez had more than 54 percent of the vote, and Capriles had 45 percent, National Electoral Council president Tibisay Lucena said. She said 81 percent of the nearly 19 million registered voters cast ballots, one of the largest turnouts in years.

It was Chavez's third re-election victory in nearly 14 years in office, though by a smaller margin than in 2006, when he won 63 percent of the votes.
Fireworks exploded in downtown Caracas, and Chavez's supporters celebrated waving flags and jumping for joy outside the presidential palace.

Chavez won more than 7.4 million votes, beating Capriles by more than 1.2 million votes, Lucena said.
Capriles congratulated Chavez and told his supporters not to feel defeated.
"We have planted many seeds across Venezuela and I know that these seeds are going to produce many trees," he told supporters in a speech late Sunday.Chavez spoke little during the campaign about his fight with cancer, which since June 2011 has included surgery to remove tumors from his pelvic region as well as chemotherapy and radiation treatment. He has said his most recent tests showed no sign of illness.
Chavez spent heavily in the months before the vote, building public housing and bankrolling expanded social programs providing benefits to poor families.
Capriles, a youthful state governor, became a strong challenger after winning a February primary and rallied an opposition that grew more united and better organized than in the past. But in the end, it was no match for Chavez's electoral prowess.
Just as polls closed on Sunday night, hundreds of young red-shirted Chavistas took to the streets on motorcycles and said they were ready to begin celebrating.
"Let them accept defeat," Kleiver Gutierrez said of the opposition.

People  of Chavez shouted to passing cars outside the Miraflores presidential palace.
One pro-Chavez voter, private bodyguard Carlos Julio Silva, said that whatever his faults, Chavez deserved to win for spreading the nation's oil wealth to the poor with free medical care, public housing and other government largess. The country has the world's largest proven oil reserves.
"There is corruption, there's plenty of bureaucracy, but the people have never had a leader who cared about this country," Silva said after voting for Chavez at a school in the Caracas slum of Petare. "That's why the people are going to re-elect Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias."

At many polling places, voters began lining up hours before polls opened at dawn, some snaking for blocks in the baking Caribbean sun. Some shaded themselves with umbrellas. Vendors grilled meat and some people drank beer.

Chavez's critics say the president has inflamed divisions by labeling his opponents "fascists," "Yankees" and "neo-Nazis," and it's likely hard for many of his opponents to stomach another six years of the loquacious and conflictive leader.

The 40-year-old Capriles, a wiry former governor affectionately called "Skinny" by supporters, infused the opposition with new optimism, and opinion polls pointed to him giving Chavez his closest election contest ever. Media agencies

  9. Naresh --

My first run for office started way back in 1995. Back then I knocked on doors, stood in front of grocery stores shaking hands, and printed my own flyers at the local copy shop.

I haven't won everything I've taken on since then, but I've learned a heck of a lot from the challenges I've faced -- and I've never regretted a single fight.

This time, losing just isn't an option. Too much is at stake. Millions of Americans have fought too long and too hard for health care reform, the opportunity for their kids to go to college, and for a steady job with a good wage. But a Romney-Ryan White House would roll back so much of our progress.

Just remember, these are the guys that talk about repealing the Affordable Care Act on their first day in office, taking away a woman's right to make her own health decisions, turning Medicare into a voucher system -- and giving huge tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires at the expense of middle-class families.

I am going to do everything in my power to make sure they don't get the chance -- but I can't do this alone. If you're waiting for the perfect time to step up and do your part to support this campaign, that's right now. Please take the next step and donate to this campaign.

What you give right now will decide whether we can get enough voters to the polls on November 6th.

    So, are you with me?

  10. MAHINDRA FELICITATES OLYMPIC MEDAL WINNING BOXER MC MARY KOM

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M), India’s leading SUV manufacturer, today felicitated London 2012 Olympic Bronze medal winner, MC Mary Kom, with its best-selling Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), the ‘Bolero’. In fact, Mary Kom is the epitome of Mahindra’s RISE philosophy by storming an otherwise male-dominated bastion by ‘Accepting No Limits’. She is also ‘Driving Positive Change’ – another element of Mahindra’s RISE ethos by altering society’s perception of what a courageous, confident and determined woman can achieve.
Presenting the keys to the Olympic medal winner and 5 times world boxing champion, Mr. Vivek Nayer, Chief Marketing Officer, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said “We are proud to be associated with MC Mary Kom.
