Lawson, Faried lead Nuggets past Mavericks, 114-107

DENVER : The Denver Nuggets escaped with Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki sitting out Wednesday night. They know they will have to deal with the former MVP when they meet again Friday night in Dallas.
Ty Lawson had 29 points and 12 assists and the Nuggets beat the slumping Dallas Mavericks 114-107.
Kenneth Faried scored four of his 22 points down the stretch and grabbed 14 rebounds to help the Nuggets run their winning streak to five.
The next one is against the Mavericks in Dallas against some rested stars. Dallas coach Rick Carlisle gave three of his best players the night off after an overtime victory Tuesday night in Sacramento.
Tyson Chandler and Rajon Rondo, as well as Nowitzki, rested while Raymond Felton, Richard Jefferson and Greg Smith started. It was the first starts for Felton and Smith.
The starters struggled for much of the night, leaving the bench to keep the Mavericks in the game. The Dallas reserves scored 62 points, led by J.J. Barea with a season-high 17.
Richard Jefferson scored 16 points for Dallas, which has lost three of four.
The Nuggets, like Dallas, had only 10 available players after Tuesday’s trade that sent guard Nate Robinson to Boston for Jameer Nelson. Lawson played all but 3:37 of the game to help get Denver (18-20) closer to .500.
Denver took control of the game early in the third quarter. After Parsons’ 3-pointer made it 61-55 the Nuggets scored 13 straight points to take a 74-55 lead midway through the period.
Dallas got within eight after a 12-1 run but Denver led 90-78 going into the fourth.
Warriors beat short-handed Heat 104-89 for 8th straight win

OAKLAND: Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has nothing but “good problems” right now.
It’s the beginning of the dog days of the NBA season, he said, those few weeks before the All-Star break when the newness of the schedule has worn off and players begin to physically and emotionally tire. And despite more lapses than he’d like, Kerr’s team just keeps on winning – and usually by a lot.
The NBA-leading Warriors continued their latest roll Wednesday night, overwhelming the undermanned Miami Heat 104-89 for their eighth straight victory. Golden State (31-5) has won by an average of 19.8 points during its current streak.
With a strained left hamstring sidelining Heat star Dwyane Wade, the Warriors mowed down Miami the way they have most opponents recently.
Stephen Curry made seven 3-pointers and finished with 32 points, and Klay Thompson scored 19 to help the Warriors build a 19-point lead in the second quarter. They responded every time Miami moved close, winning their 15th consecutive home game, tying the longest streak since the franchise moved West before the 1962-63 season.
Chris Bosh had 26 points and seven rebounds but couldn’t carry the Heat alone. Luol Deng added 19 points, and Hassan Whiteside had 10 points and 12 rebounds in his first start for Miami.
Wade left with the hamstring injury in the first half of the Heat’s win at the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night. The team said he is “day to day.”
Miami’s victories at the Lakers and Clippers in a three-day span marked the first time since Nov. 23 the Heat had won two straight – a stunning span of 24 games for the four-time defending Eastern Conference champions, who are still adjusting to life without LeBron James.
A night later in Northern California, the Warriors wore down the depleted Heat (17-22) behind a familiar formula: smothering defense, pushing the pace in transition and finishing on the other end – often from long range.
Curry and Thompson got Golden State off to a strong start behind their potent 3-point shooting, and the second unit helped stretch the lead to 19 points in the second quarter. The Warriors led 55-38 at the half.
Miami moved within single digits in the third and fourth quarters, but in routine fashion, the Warriors quickly pulled away each time behind a big burst.
Curry shot 11 for 19 from the floor, including 7 of 10 from beyond the arc. Reserves Andre Iguodala and Leandro Barbosa each scored nine points for Golden State.
Pierce’s 22 points lead Wizards over Rose, Bulls, 105-99
CHICAGO: For all the talk about LeBron James going home and Derrick Rose returning, the Washington Wizards were easy to overlook at the start of the season.
Not anymore.
Paul Pierce had 22 points and the Washington Wizards beat the Chicago Bulls 105-99 on Wednesday night, despite Derrick Rose’s season-high 32.
John Wall scored 10 of his 21 in the fourth quarter. Bradley Beal added 17, and the Wizards knocked off the Central division leaders for the second time in six days.
They did it on the road this time after winning at home last week. And the latest victory over the Bulls comes after the Wizards knocked off defending champion San Antonio at home the previous night.
Those are two impressive wins by a team that’s demanding attention after Cleveland and Chicago got most of it in the Eastern Conference at the start of the season.
Washington trailed by as much as 11 in the first half but outscored Chicago 32-19 in the third to take a seven-point lead to the fourth. The Wizards hung on after Chicago pulled within one, handing the Bulls their fourth loss in five games.
Rose was at his best right from the start, scoring 17 in the first quarter and nailing a half-court heave at the end of the period. He hit a season-high six 3-pointers. But the Bulls were shaky on defense again and played the second half without Joakim Noah after he injured his right ankle.
Taj Gibson had just dunked to pull Chicago within 83-82 when Kris Humphries put back a vicious one-hander off a miss by Rasual Butler to start a 12-3 run that bumped the lead back up to 10.
Pierce capped that run with a 3-pointer to make it 95-85 with just over four minutes remaining.
The Bulls were within six after Aaron Brooks nailed one from long range. Wall answered with a 3 of his own to make it 100-91 with 2:29 left. With the win, the Wizards took out another top team after ending a 17-game losing streak to the Spurs the previous night.

China to launch construction of 5 new nuclear reactors

16 01 2015

China will launch the construction of at least five new nuclear reactors with a total capacity of more than five gigawatts in 2015, as reported by Bloomberg. The Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Nuclear Society Shen Lixin told journalists yesterday in Beijing that currently China has 22 reactors in operation and 26 under construction. In 2014, China launched the construction of five reactors and in 2015 Beijing is likely to keep up the pace of construction.
According to the World Nuclear Association, in 2014 four new reactors began operating in the Chinese provinces of Fujian, Liaoning and Guangdong. The 2015 reactor construction goals are in line with country’s aim to triple its atomic energy capacity to at least 58 gigawatts by 2020, in order to decrease severe air pollution caused by coal fired plants. China conducted a complete review of its nuclear energy policy after Japan was hit by the Fukushima disaster in March 2011.

The proposed terminal will use high-end technology and will be one of the first of its kind in India. The Kakinada port was found suitable for a project of this nature owing to its availability of a natural break-water in the Hope Island – a barrier that protects against the impact of high seas.

He pointed out that gas is the way to go as it dovetails world’s concerns about climate change. Considering the state and country’s need for energy, Shri Naidu stated that opportunities for scaling up are huge. The Chief Minister also suggested that building such partnerships is important to develop projects with advanced technological capabilities.
Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Mr Dharmendra Pradhan said, “This project would be a significant boost to our economic churning and development. Speaking about the project, Dr. Yasmine Hilton, Chairman, Shell Companies in India, said, “Shell is pleased to contribute to this opportunity with our partners as a LNG terminal in Andhra Pradesh will help meet the energy demand in the region. Soon after its acquisition of a majority stake in the 1,000 MW Meenakshi coal-fired power project near Krishnapatnam port, the participation in the Kakinada LNG project confirms GDF SUEZ’s confidence in the Indian energy growth potential. We are excited to be part of the energy infrastructure development story that is taking shape in Andhra Pradesh and are proud to bring our experience in floating LNG to India for this first East coast terminal. Belgian police have killed two men who opened fire on them during one of about a dozen raids against an Islamist group that federal prosecutors said was about to launch terrorist attacks on a grand scale. But prosecutor said the Belgian probe had been under way before the January 7 attack on French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. A third man was detained in the eastern city of Verviers, where police commandos ran into a hail of gunfire after trying to gain entry to an apartment above a town centre bakery. All three suspects were citizens of Belgium, which has one of the biggest concentrations of European Islamists fighting in Syria.

German police officers raided suspected Islamist cells in and around Berlin early Friday. An alleged leader of a group planning to carry out an attack in Syria was arrested, AFP reported. The man, 41, of Turkish origin, is suspected of “leading an Islamist extremist group made up of Turkish and Russian nationals from Chechnya and Dagestan,” police said. There is no indication that the group was preparing attacks inside Germany.

Ebola crisis has ‘passed the tipping point’ – UN envoy

The Ebola crisis has “passed the tipping point,” AFP quoted the UN special envoy as saying. UN Ebola coordinator David Nabarro cited fresh data from the World Health Organization showing that all three hardest-hit countries in West Africa had registered the lowest weekly tally of new cases in months. Liberia reported its lowest weekly number of new cases since early June. Guinea and Sierra Leone both saw the fewest new cases since August. There is now a reasonable chance the deadly outbreak could end quickly, Nabarro said.

Delhi BJP President & Gen. Secretary Petty BSES Contractors

15 01 2015
Satish Upadhyay and his General Secretary from the party immediately.
It was Impossible for BSES to install FAST METERS without the services
of Satish Upadhyay and Anil Ashish Sood – Meters are Tested after
Installation but they didn’t disclose the FEATURES installed in the
Meters to Run Fast.
1.    All Meters were set to run around 3% fast at all times.
2.    All Meters were Programmed to Capture Return Current in case of
common Neutral between two meters.
3.    All Meters had Software to Run Meters Fast – Technology Defined in
General Electric Patents abused by BSES.
Within 2-3 months of Takeover by BSES in July2002 all Electricity
Meters were Test Checked by Companies like the one owned by Satish
Upadhyay – meters even 1% Slow Were Replaced Immediately – 17% Fast
were not.
Most meters were needlessly replaced 2-4 Times – Good
Electro-Mechanical Meters were replaced by L&T Meters and then by
Chinese / Indian Computerized Meters.
Purchase of Meters needlessly in itself is Rs.1000 Crore Scam and Fast
Meters in last 12.5 years Caused Rs.12,500 Crores Scam to Consumers.
Satish Upadhyay responsible for Meters installation was also INVOLVED
IN FABRICATED THEFT CASES – BSES didn’t account for Load Factor which
is 11%. For example a Consumer with 10KW Load would have 1.1KW average
load.
Over 1,00,000 Fabricated Cases were registered and many times more
were SIMPLE EXTORTIONS. This too is Rs.1000 Crores Direct Loss to
Consumers – and many times more for Extortions.
Since 2002 I have made Petitions to PMO regarding LOOT of BSES & NDPL.
Delhi BJP has Sabotaged LED & SolarPV Programs.

#4: UBA All India Inter University Basketball Tournament for Men Day 3

15 01 2015
#4: UBA All India Inter University Basketball Tournament for Men Day 3 and Day 2 Evening- Bengaluru wins thriller against Punjab, Hosts Sathyabama stays undefeated
Gopalakrishnan R & Vishnu Ravi Shankar, Chennai, 13th- 14th January 2015: In an exciting series of morning games, a full strength Jain University, Bengaluru team which was seeded 4th from the South Zone, upset North Zone’s no. 1 side Punjab University, Chandigarh 99-97. Earlier on the same court, Jamia Millia Delhi continued its deceptive winning streak beating MG Kasi Vidya Peet University, Varanasi in a must win match.
Jain University, Bengaluru trailed by double digits early in the fourth quarter before its point guard Vinoth drained back to back threes that brought his team within one possession. Two quick fast break opportunities followed, and that coupled with Punjab missing some clutch freethrows meant that Bengaluru side went through to the quarterfinals as the top seeded team from Pool A.
In the other close morning match, GNDU Amritsar beat Bharathiar University, Coimbatore 81-65 to force a triple tie in Pool C between Bharati Vidya Peet University, Pune, GNDU and Bharathiar. It remains to be seen which two out of these three teams will go through to the knockout stages.

Chennai teams remain undefeated in Day 2 Evening Games

The two teams from Chennai that have qualified for the UBA All India Inter-University Basketball Tournament for Men 2014-15, Sathyabama University and University of Madras have remained undefeated thus far in the league stages. The University of Madras played their second game yesterday evening against the team from Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi and picked up a 71-58 win. The game remained close in the first half, with Jamia staying within single digits of the University of Madras team. However, the Chennai team pulled away in the second half owing to their superior size advantage over the New Delhi team. Karthickeyan S. from the University of Madras team poured in 27 points, while his team’s imposing centre Jeevanatham P. put in 12 points and had numerous blocks.
The home team, Sathyabama University faced a formidable opponent in Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur yesterday evening. The game was an up-and-down battle in the first half that saw four lead changes. Both teams were sloppy throughout the game with a similar number of turnovers, but Sathyabama’s superior rebounding advantage (43-19 in team rebounds) carried them through to victory. Sathyabama’s point guard, Arun Prashanth led from the front with 23 points and 4 assists in the game, while Sathyabama’s centre, Rakesh had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Despite Kiranpal S. from the Raipur team shooting lights out from beyond the 3-point line and scoring a game-high 35 points, it was not enough as Sathyabama maintained their lead in the second half and hung on for the win.
In the matches held on the outdoor courts yesterday, the top seed from the North Zone, Punjab University, Chandigarh picked up their second win of the tournament with a comfortable 65-48 victory against the team from the University of Burdwan, West Bengal on the basis of a balanced scoring attack. The other game was between GNDU, Amritsar and the fourth seed of the East Zone, VBS Purvanchal University, Jaunpur. This was a completely one-sided affair as the second seed from the North Zone, GNDU Amritsar dominated the Jaunpur team from start to finish to pick up a 95-58 blowout victory. GNDU’s Sukhjit N. had 22 points and 7 assists and Harmanpreet put up a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Embassies are at the cutting edge of the international system, agencies of the home system that transact with foreign countries. Past few years have witnessed evolution of purpose of diplomacy as set out in the Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations 1961, as a consequence of which the role of embassies has been extended to being that of a promoter, negotiator, communicator, manager, synthesiser, and service provider across the entire gamut of external affairs. This proactive and intensive involvement has lead to perceive embassies as the “CEO’s of multiagency missions reaching out to the entire society and not just the government”. In that context, Ambassador Kishan S. Rana raises the question whether embassies are likely to undergo evolutionary changes adapting to requirements of efficiency and tighter accountability in his book “The Contemporary Embassy – Paths to Diplomatic Excellence”. The book discussion session will have experts on diplomacy reflecting over the main argument of the book on the departure from formulistic rituals of diplomacy and on ways embassies could do better.
