Now withdrawal of  instant noodles Top Ramen

Jun 30
Indo Nissin Foods has ordered the withdrawal of its instant noodles brand Top Ramen from the Indian market following an advisory from central food safety regulator, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, FSSAI. The move comes in the wake of the controversy over Maggi noodles, after which the FSSAI had ordered the testing of all instant noodles, pastas and macaroni brands sold by seven companies to check compliance of norms. A statement from Indo Nissin Foods Private Limited said, they had sought clarification from FSSAI since Top Ramen product approval is pending with them. It said, FSSAI has requested them to withdraw the product until it gives the approval.
Last month, the central regulatory body had come out with the advisory on product safety testing of all instant noodle products in India after tests in certain states revealed the presence of lead beyond permissible limits and taste enhancer Monosodium Glutamate, MSG in Maggi noodles. Hindustan Unilever has also withdrawn its Knorr instant noodles brand pending product approval from FSSAI. Global cafe chain Starbucks also has stopped using ingredients not approved by the regulator in certain products served at its India outlets.
India joins Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank; becomes 2nd largest shareholder among 50 founding countries
Jun 30,  8:0 AM
India and representatives from 49 other founding countries, have signed an agreement that provided legal framework for the China-led ‘100 Billion’ US Dollar, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank or AIIB. The 60-article agreement specified each member’s share as well as governance structure and policy-making mechanism of the bank, which is designed to finance infrastructure in Asia. The delegates from 50 founding countries gathered at the Great Hall of the People in the Chinese capital Beijing for the signing ceremony yesterday. Seven more countries are due to sign by the end of the year.
With Japan, the other large Asian economy besides China, opting out of the Bank’s membership, India is its second largest shareholder with a stake of 8.52 per cent and voting share of 7.5 per cent. China being the largest shareholder at 30.34 per cent and it has retained 26.06 per cent of the voting rights.
AIIB will have authorised capital of 100 billion US Dollars, and Asian countries will contribute up to 75 per cent of the total capital. Each member will be allocated a share of the quota based on their Economic size and not contribution to the Bank’s authorised capital. AIIB is expected to go into operation later this year.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, China’s Finance Minister Lou Jiwei said the AIIB will uphold high standards and follow international rules in its operation, policy-making and management to ensure efficiency and transparency.
US and Japan, which oppose the AIIB, are the most prominent countries not to join. AIIB is seen as a rival to the World Bank.

EU offer Greece last minute deal

European Union offers Greece last minute deal as loan repayment deadline ends today
Jun 30
European Union has offered Greece a last-minute deal to ease the crisis that is threatening the country out of the euro and weaken the foundations of the European Union’s single currency. Jean-Claude Juncker, the head of the European Union’s executive branch, offered the Greek prime minister, Alex Tsipras, a proposal with possibility of a concession on demands for cuts in bonus payments for the poorest pensioners.
European officials said, in return, however, Mr. Tsipras would have to accept all of the other creditors’ demands, which he had already turned down, and request an emergency meeting of eurozone finance ministers today. European Unions leaders have warned Greeks that rejecting creditors’ proposals in a snap referendum called for next Sunday would mean leaving the euro. German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said the vote would be yes or no to the eurozone.
Talks between Greece and its creditors broke down last week, leading to Greek banks having to shut this week. Global stock markets fell sharply yesterday. Investors have been concerned by the probability that Athens will be unable to meet a 1.6 billion euro loan repayment to the International Monetary Fund that is due today.
Meanwhile, speaking to Greek television yesterday evening, the Greek Prime Minister urged as many Greeks to vote no as possible on Sunday to give his government a stronger position to restart negotiations. He said his government had a mandate to be within the European framework but with more justice. Mr Tsipras hinted strongly that he would resign if the result of the referendum was a yes vote.
Some 17,000 people took to the streets of Athens and Thessaloniki yesterday to say no to the latest offer of a bailout deal, accusing Greece’s international creditors of blackmail. Many of the demonstrators support the Greek Prime Minister and said they would heed his call to vote against the latest deal in the referendum.
